I don't like making introductions to large groups of people since I'm not very social but here it goes... I'm Jason and I used to do IT and web development for a living but got completely burned out from it. Burnout caused lots of anxiety about finding a new job and thinking about why I was burned out from my last job didn't make me want a new one. Months before losing my house I stumbled on /r/vagabond and got interested in the hobo lifestyle. I want to try something different and live life on the road. I wanted to start early summer hiking and camping before heading out but got delayed. Going to be leaving sometime in January and head south which is not ideal since I'm probably as green as they come. I'm also thinking of hiking some of the AT at the beginning of spring.

Welcome Jason!

When you're out there traveling and want to make some money, remember that you can ply your trade on CL in probably any decent sized city. There are great skills to have on the road and IT is one of them.

Welcome to STP and do check out our stored info as well as the other info on the internet - many of us are big on the urban explore (well I and many others are hehe) so check that sub forum out and then go research into the areas you want to travel too - good finds out there!!

Hi!

and I used to do IT and web development for a living

Same here. Mostly Java and PHP in the last years.

but got completely burned out from it.

Same here. :/

Burnout caused lots of anxiety about finding a new job and thinking about why I was burned out from my last job didn't make me want a new one.

I decided to take some time off. Was a few months traveling in UK this year. (I'm from Europe.) Will depart to my next trip back to UK tomorrow.

Going to be leaving sometime in January and head south which is not ideal since I'm probably as green as they come. I'm also thinking of hiking some of the AT at the beginning of spring.

Wish you all the best! And welcome to StP. This site changed my life. :)

Take care and safe travels!

Welcome to the site. Life is to short to stay at a gig that runs your ragged.
Awesome that you have those computer skills. Very portable way to make money.
Good luck and make use of this site, very useful and informative it is.

My favorite months of the year, also my name. I cannot even begin to state how much I can relate to this;
Burnout caused lots of anxiety about finding a new job and thinking about why I was burned out from my last job didn't make me want a new one.

I left my career to travel, I'm still alive. Financially I'm a lot poorer, but I'm rich with experiences, memories and friends that I've made along the way. Welcome to the site, I occasionally lurk about r/vagabond as well.

i've never done much programming, but i did website design and still do a little bit, but yeah, i can identify with the getting burned out on it, and like you said, it can be difficult to switch careers away from that.
