Go to White Sulfur Springs and check out the Greenbrier Hotel there. Theres an abandoned Cold War fallout shelter under the hotel that can hold 5000 people. I like Harpers Ferry a lot, too. From there I would just hitch or hike the AT, staying in the little shelters.
