i am from ky mostly but i have lived and traveled through north carolina my whole life.

what part of central nc are you livin in? your talking about a large area.

i used to hang out in greensboro/chapel hill/raleigh/durham/winston salem

if your in gboro your gunna ride NS. can catch NS out of linwood which is SW of lexington. linwood is a big yard. lots of directions out of linwood. can catch down to atl out of gboro and a couple other places i think.

catch csx outta raleigh down to hamlet. hamlet is a big yard too. not really gunna get anywhere else on csx in raleigh. hamlet has trains that go all of the fuckin place.

NS out of raleigh will take you to greensboro, linwood, or east towards bum fuck no where. can also ride up to roanoke. avoid roanoke.

can catch out of Charlotte too. NS or CSX. dont know much about trains here.

wouldnt bother with winston salem unless you wanna ride WSS. small NS yrd here too.

asheville is NS. go west towards knoxville. knoxville is a big yard. or go east towards linwood.

trains in NC are easy. youll figure it out. im not giving up my catch out spots like that or specific info on yards. get out there and do it up like everyone else. i dont know everythng but what i do know i learned by trial by fire.

hell 2 of my favorite top 10 yards are in this state. both have very nice workers. not gunna tell which yards though because i dont want to leak that kind of info on the net and get someone in trouble or blow a spot up.

Thanks for the info. I'm not too far from Greensboro.

That Asheville to Knoxville run is one I'm really itching to do. Looks pretty as hell on the maps. I'm from Roanoke originally and would love to be able to get back and forth there, too, but yeah I know what you mean about keeping clear of it - just too many workers and bulls. They train the bulls out of there still I believe.

I'm meeting up with a guy this weekend that's based out of VA but has ridden in and out of Asheville a lot over the past 20 years or so, should be able to pick his brain a bit.

asheville to knoxville is nice. knoxville can be a pain for someone new to hopping trains. i actually think knoxville is a bit of a dump and wouldn't bother spending time there. if you know where to go the yard is easy as fuck. i hear the bull is a hassle but thats what everyone says about every bull. so i don't know. stories are called stories for a reason.
i got some pictures some wehre of the ride. if i get the time and can find them i might post them.

I was just in Roanoke 2 weeks ago and have ridden and caught out from there once before. I've always heard it's supposed to be high security becase it's NS HQ, but I've neer seen a bull there. It was a Sunday, maybe they had the day off, eh?

The last time I was in Hamlet, a worker told me where to find the departure yard and who to ask to find the train I needed. Really friendly there.

I'm in Danville and I've been trying to take some weekend trips between work. Hit me up, I might be down for catching down there.
