Just wanted to know of ways to get heartworm medicine for my pup without having to pay a fuck ton or get her a script for it without having to pay for the exam.
Heartworm medicine- cheap ways/scams to get it?

First off,get the exam.Some of the brands of med will sicken/kill your dog if there are heartworms present when you give them the preventative.AS IN DEAD PUP,GOT IT?
Now,start asking around.There are a lot of sympathetic vet techs out there,especially in the rescue circuit.Some of them have the job of clearing out the meds that are being replaced by "new and improved" versions,or just a brand switch.Some of them are appaled by the waste of throwing out perfectly good meds into the trash.Some of them might even miss the trashcan when they throw out a sealed package of heartworm meds ,and it lands in a dry spot by the dumpster.

If you can't get your hands on any selemectin you can resort to repelling the mosquitoes. Skin so Soft (diluted 4:1 with water and misted on the dog) works well, as does tea tree oil.
Also keep in mind that though heartwork preventative is usually given monthly, it only NEEDS to be given every 60 days. It works backwards by killing stage 1 and 2 heartworm larvae. Larvae don't enter stage 3 (where selemectin fails to kill it) until about 70 days.

I use Skin So Soft on myself too.
I forgot to add that garlic and b vitamin supplements are great at repelling the mosquitoes too. Just don't give too much garlic to a dog because it's toxic in large amounts. Just a pinch will do. You can use b vitamin pills, or food high in b vitamins like berries and broccoli. And all this works for people as well, and repells other critters like fleas and lice.
My dog is actually allergic to heartwork medication and I don't use it on him. Not saying that repelling the mosquitoes is 100% effective for all, but my dog has never had heartworms. So if you have a dog and you're without the chemicals there's still a lot of easy stuff you can do.
