Gear list

I have my gear list up to date and I was wondering if you could tell me anything you see on my list you happened to throw away because you didn't need it, because it weighed down, or any other reason. Thank you.

My plans are hitchhiking along with stealth camping and maybe working some short odd jobs and maybe a workaway while travelling throughout the west (Mostly OR, NorCal, AZ & NM)

Camo Sleeping Bag
Camo Bivy Sack
Emergency poncho
1 Camo shirt
1 tshirt
2 shorts
1 pair jeans
4 pairs of socks sealed in bag
Fleece Jacket
Polyester Jacket
Winter Coat (I plan on going to New Mexico and I know it gets cold at night so that's why this is on there?)
Ushanka
Boots (primarily worn)
Sneakers (secondary)
(Should I skip my sneakers and just wear the boots?)

(this food isn't for while I'm in town but while I'm in places without food sources like while I'm hitching out of town)
2 bags of hemp seeds
2 instant rice bags
PB
Jerky
2L water

Lighter
Earplugs
Journal & Pen
Compass
Harmonica
Sawyer and Lifestraw Filter (one for bottles and one for direct drinking)
Flashlight
Swiss army knife
Spigot key
Light Can opener
Emergency whistle

It's nice to have another pair of shoes, but I'd say with all the stuff you have in your pack already it would be better to forego them. All them clothes are gonna make for a pretty tight fit unless you have a big backpack.

Cool for asking - you've done your research <3 Hopefully our experts chime in here - out of curiosity - have you weighed it and how heavy. :)

Screw the shoes and shorts. Smart move on the spigot key, you'll learn to love it in AZ. In SoCal or AZ you can get a winter jacket for free or under $5 at most any thrift store this time of year, I'd just grab a thermal undershirt in the mean time. It does get cold there, but not like, die of expouser while wearing a jacket cold. At least this time of year.

You seem to be questioning yourself a lot, I've found that while traveling you just gotta say fuck it and learn by experience. Take what you think you'll need and you'll learn what was and wasn't necessary.

Yeah, I'm only going to be out for the summer so I'll learn from that and be ready for a bigger journey next time. I think I'll need this stuff but if I don't use something at all I'll definitely know for next time.
Thanks!

What is an ushanka?

I've found the sawyer mini to work better than the lifestraw as it can be used on different plastic bottles like the Smart water bottles. But, that's just my preference after having used both the lifestraw and the sawyer. I also never go on a trip without my Mora and ferro. The more you know, the less you carry. Pick up a copy of Mors Kochanski Bushcraft book- read it, practice it. You'll know more than 99.9% of what the average person knows on how to survive away from civilization. Hell, Once you've learned how to boil water using a rock or creating your own water filter you probably wouldn't even need the water filters. Oh, Dehydrated beans with spices are lightweight and good to carry. The best I've found was in N MN at a food co op. They were amazing.
