Florida lawmakers refuse to debate assault rifles -- but say porn is dangerous

17 students and teachers were gunned down at a Florida high school, the state legislature voted 71-36 Tuesday against a measure to consider a ban on semi-automatic weapons.

"We're all here because we need to strive for change, and the legislation needs to change, because we've fallen victim to lazy legislation for far too long," student Kai Koerber said.
Almost all 71 lawmakers who voted against considering a assault rifle ban have an "A" rating from the National Rifle Association.
"Our message is at this point, for the politicians: If you're not with us, you're against us," Stoneman Douglas student Chris Grady said. "We're trying to save the lives of innocent children."

I really think we need to apply statistical data to these things. The event in Florida was tragic just like every other mass shooting in the past but debating on the labels of whether it was a terrorist, mental illness, etc is only applicable if we are trying to create a viable solution. If this solution can help prevent these things from happening WITHOUT defying others undivisible rights then go for it, if not then no.

Honestly, a handful of AR's are not going to stop a police and/or military force if the powers that be somehow brainwash them into turning against the American people. If a well regulated militia properly armed were to oppose said force, they would be labeled domestic terrorists and brought to heel with little to no mercy. Even if that well regulated militia was in the right and by losing to the greater force we all end up with our rights trampled, their fellow Americans will just stand there with an iPhone getting video of the whole thing so they can tweet "I was there!" later instead of taking up arms to protect themselves from fascism and tyranny.
Everyone in America could have an AR, be a part of a well regulated militia, and that's still nothing when faced with the power of the state's armory.
Trust me. I've seen the SOP. I've probably unwittingly helped contribute to the SOP. The powers that be have been designing and updating the SOP for probably more than a century now. At least since WWII for sure.

With the whole "protect myself from the government" argument disarmed, let's begin to think about what can be done from a more logical perspective. Yes, everyone has the right to own a firearm to protect their property/home/self. No, an assault rifle is not a defensive firearm. No, guns are not the cause, but they are obviously part of the problem when we see them repeatedly being used to try and alleviate the symptoms. Yes, more regulations need to be in place to keep guns out of the wrong hands. Is it foolproof? Of course not, but it is definitely a hurdle and speed bump between a bad mood and dead bodies.

I could go on and on, but my main point is to think with logic and not emotion or rhetoric with this issue. I was damn near born with a long gun in my hand. I am, or at least was since it's been a while, a sharpshooter. There are liberals that love guns and conservatives that hate them. So let's take the labels off the issue too and get to the core.

I dunno. Maybe I'm the only one sick and tired of rhetoric and labels and shit. If so, that's cool. I'm used to being an outsider. haha

There is too much happening too quickly for this to NOT have been planned. These people are either actors or rubes being used to carry the narrative for those that would enslave the nation and turn this place into a full on prison like Zimbabwe, Duvalier's Haiti, Mao's China, etc. The news article points out through it's disgust just how much of a farce this whole thing is. What DOES need to happen is more intensive background checks, and all metal health issues being reported to the background check database.

I wouldn't be opposed to a 21 year old age limit on assault rifles either.
