Anyone ever see Ironwood (1987)?
It has Jack Nicholson as the lead character.
It doesn't pull any punches, and I think you will find it legit.

you mean Ironweed? sounds interesting.
I saw Emperor of the North not too long ago, that was an interesting Depression Era trainhopping movie. not the most accurate, but still a bit entertaining.

Ironweed is not exclusively trainhopping, but it's accuracy cuts pretty close to the bone.
