Hey! So, my name is Max i'm dorky and silly, but i try not to be stupid. I've liked the idea of traveling my whole life, and i think i've finally got the nerve to do it this summer! I heard about this site forever ago but never really heavily checked it out, so far everyone seams pretty chill! I'm super inexperienced and probably won't be able to find a road dog, but i guess if it's too much for me i'll try again some other time. I always try to be the nicest i can and love socializing and meeting new people. I'm very low maintenance and i figured the cure for my constant (and persistent) wanderlust would be to just go for it and travel for a bit!

Well, glad you checked us out! There are a lot of resources here (I always point this out to the travelers I meet in my city) for traveling information - and looking for a fellow traveler, etc. Welcome aboard and have fun in your travels!

Awesome that you're going marching with your dreams. Stay sharp, stay smart, and eventually you'll meet up with someone to travel if you're nice enough. Good luck.

Thank you very much! Hopefully I can leave within the next two or three weeks, I'm super excited for it, and seeing people be supportive of one of my biggest interests is so cool! All i ever get from home and even some friends are insulting stereotypes of traveling people, and comments about how i'm basically obligated to get a job and live a traditional non nomadic life. It makes my blood boil tbh.

^This. But to be honest, before I really learned about travelers like the ones on STP, I too thought that every busker/spanger was a drunk, drug-addict begging for money. It really just comes down to mis-education, but it's hard to tell people that you're going to be happy with little money, especially if they find that completely horrible.
Not going to lie though, jobs can be great, especially if they're outside or you're doing something you like. For example, I got a summer job this year as a lifeguard, and I thought that I was going to hate it. I'm not paying bills or anything, but the people there aren't too bad and getting paid to have quiet time is pretty awesome. There are days where it's cold and the kids are annoying and I want to be home, but for the most part, I enjoy it. Still, I think I'd much more enjoy travelling, but I'll be housed up until I finish school, so those are the breaks.
Friends and family chasing their dream of living comfortably just have a different mindset. It's hard to explain, but don't let others doubts get in your way if they're not making legit points, or if their arguments don't scare you. Good luck all the same. If you ever just want to chat, hit me up on PM.

Hmm, I think every spanger is begging for money. And most of the buskers do what they do for money, too. (At least in the first place, making music is a great thing even without making money, I know.) What's wrong with being drunk from time to time? What's wrong with doing some types of "drugs" (think cigarettes, weed, not heroin or meth) ...
Otherwise, I agree with you. :)

Spanging, is effectively asking for money, but my perception of people who "begged" for money (or played music for money) used to be that they were "bad" people, so to speak, lowlifes. I thought each one of them were drunks (like, think alcoholics) that didn't deserve anything. And while there certainly are scummy homebums that just sit around and get drunk and do nothing, that used to be my perception of every traveler, spanger, busker, etc.

Absolutely nothing. ;) I smoke and drink from time to time, but unfortunately, at the same time I thought that every busker/spanger was a bad person, I also thought every person who smoked weed or drank was also a bad person.
