So I'm planning a unorthodox tour for my band (which is currently just me cus my band mate is in Tacoma). Rather than go up and down the coast, I'm gonna try to hit as many DIY spaces, houses, squats, dive bars, and bookstores as I can in a just a few days in September. Gonna use it to get to...
So, my neighbor gave me this bike that belonged to her deceased husband and my plan is to fix it up and outfit it for bike touring. I am planning on using "Zinn and the Art of Road Bike Maintenance" as my guide. But I haven't done any research on the bike yet, I just know it looks pretty badass...
After I did the video on my folding touring bike I wanted to do another about the gear and equipment that ill be bringing on the bike with me. My set up is small and lightweight. I built it to blend in with the locals on bikes. As well as allow me to stealth camp in more rural settings and...
Even though theoretically i am still on my first bike tour, the fact i had about 5 days break and flew across the border makes this feel like a new chapter. In my previous thread (First tour, heading out of Kamloops) you will find my story of starting out with this form of travel and cycling...
After spending a year in Kamloops weathering the second and third COVID waves, i got my vaccinations and resolved to get back on the road again. I was really inspired by the posts of @BikePunky and @superphoenix getting started without much gear to give bike touring a shot.
When i first got...
About a year ago now I first delved into traveling and vagabonding by setting out from a homeless camp I had been bumming it at into the great unknown. I had spent the past few months there cooking with the local food not bombs and getting accustomed to life outdoors (I had been homeless before...
Covid got my old cycling & mechanic skill set back into action. I'm in a good place to prepare for a bike tour, so this isn't so much about the HOW or the WHERE, but the WHY.
I'm in Miami and I have a place to stay until late January or early February. I've been giving serious consideration to...
While my back is currently fucked up and I can't move around too much, I thought I would take the time to talk about my little bike trip through New England from two years ago.
After biking around the Greater New York City area a lot, I decided it was time to expand my horizons and see some...
(hii i don't use forums much, so please forgive me if it isn't done right. admins feel free to delete) So a friend just gifted me a Miyata 610. I'm helping another friend get down to NOLA from Portland at the end of next month and I want to ride my bike back home I think.
Currently I don't...
Hey y'all.
Time to start a new picture/ story thread for this one.

My wife's taking time off from conducting, so join her as she shares her unique songs of modern railroad life. She may be the first to have written songs reflecting her frustration with "Precision Scheduled Railroading". ( :
"The backups" are Tim Jones on drums, Joe Dunn on guitar and bass...
i have a schwinn 684, and while it can carry all my gear, it's only able to fit 20mm, MAYBE 23mm tires. obviously this kinda sucks as i'm limited to relatively smooth roads, and only the hardest of dirt and tightest of gravel. it gets pinch flats if i don't keep the pressure >100 psi. should i...
hey! are any of yall going to see hell n mizmor play in late sept? im asking specifically about their seattle, oakland, n la dates. im trying to go (the actual destination is up in the air atm) and am curious is all. thx!
Now most cyclist purists hate the idea of long distance bike touring via an ebike. Since this website is about stretching the possibilities of travel & enlightenment I doubt we will have too many who are against it. I personally do not have the budget for an ebike but am seriously considering...
Hi humans,
I have these projects and I'm working on a house show tour August - November 2019. Calling all musicians and people to check it out and maybe get involved. This is letter has more details and a cheesy anecdote (cause it was aimed towards housies). Wanna host a show...
@ibuzzard arrived at 11:00 pm on Sunday June 9th. We woke up at 4:00 am and were on the road by 4:15, didn't even brush my teeth. We drove up to Quincy California and had breakfast at Morning Thunder Cafe. ibuzzard put the word out that we were looking for an 8 mile ride up to Keddie(our...
Ok bike nerds, I'm looking at buying a new bike, ideally for bike touring. I want something that is going to last me damn near forever and confortable enough that I can spend days/weeks riding at a decent speed. not interested in mountain bikes, i want a road/hybrid bike. my budget is around...
So i have no experiance bike touring but im look into it.. Im looking into building a decent roadbike and saving up for some decent gear.. Ive hitch hiked alittle bit and rubber tramped but i really want to bike tour.. Im currently in denver colorado but have been thinking about biking back to...
I've been researching bike touring in Mexico and I'm looking for any info from people that have toured down there. I came across this which is pretty helpful. I know a few members have spent quite a bit of time south of the border. I'd actually consider staying down there for quite awhile if the...
Never bike toured, but I've traveled by nearly every other method. Right now I'm in Phoenix saving $60/day working for a staffing agency. Collecting dollars and looking to build a tour trike and take off sometime during the 1st week of March. Right now I got a whole laundry list of shit and gear...
So maybe Im just old and out of shape, or lazy... But this dude on facebook told me, his daily average on a 6 week 2200 mile bike tour, was 87 miles... A DAY!!!
But he didnt just do it with a loaded bike, front and back panniers... He was pulling a two wheel trailer, and a 30 LB dog... He...
I've gone about 500 miles total on the California coast so far on an old rigid steel mountain bike I converted for touring. Here's some pictures. I need to start remembering to take more.
I converted my bike for touring at a local bike nonprofit for less than $100 with used parts.
I got used...
Does anyone have any big plans for 2019 bike touring? How hard is it to find a touring partner or small group to ride with?
Ill tell you what happenned last year.
First of all, I took off and decided to live off my motorcycle. I ended up in California and I had my old Honda Motorcycle, a small...
It's been a good little while since I've been on here. Mostly because I have an iPhone 4 and this website doesn't work well with this my phone I use or wifi.
Anyways, I've got 5,000+ miles in. I don't use money usually. The clothes I got I either got out of thrift store dumpsters or thrift...
I left eugene Oregon on August 5th. I went to Seattle, then started heading east. Missoula, Idaho falls, salt lake city, moab, grand junction, boulder, then rode through Kansas and Missouri, now I am in Kentucky. I'm going to post pictures soon, once i figure out how. I was locked out of this...

Anyone else have this problem? I've met some cool people but it seems most people bail out of any kind of plans. There should be a way to find someone. Touring alone can be fun and exciting, but having someone to ride with is so much more enjoyable.
This didn't really fit into the workshops section, but last year we did an awesome tour of slabs in my bus and I got to talk about all the different spots, and we stopped at a few places to play around. I would love to do that again this year.
Let me know if you're interested in this!
I really like this guy's videos. Super chill guy and doesn't look like your typical bike tourer- wears everyday clothes and boots, rides a nice Schwinn with front and back racks and stealth camps all over.

I recently sold my Bike Friday folder and bought a Surly Troll. I realized that I enjoy being on the back roads way more than fighting with automobile traffic/exhaust/noise, and the Troll is built for “gravel touring”. With fatter tires (2.5” on mine, but you can go fatter), it plows through the...
Hey everyone!
I am going on a bike tour pretty soon from Montreal Canada to Gaspesie. I am leaving with my dog amd we will take it slow - camping and all that good stuff. If anyone is in the area and interested in joining, let me know!
Cheers!
Martin
This guy has the best Bike Touring Videos I've yet watched. He mentions roads he's on, etc. Plus, he seems like a cool guy. Beware: The videos are addictive.
Now that I've been living full-time in my bus instead of just using it as a detachable bedroom and work truck, I decided to take some pictures of my set-up.
I just finished my first bicycle tour on a folder, and there's no going back.
My traveling life first began when I took off summer to ride 3,800 miles from the Atlantic to the Pacific. I got to see the country. Urban. Rural. I saw the endless farms with GMO corn. I passed farmworkers in full...
So having become fairly proficient in hopping, hitching, and getting around in general. while at the same time becoming bored, disalusioned, and lonely, I shift myself back into meth overdrive one weekend with a 1/4 oz, new rigs, and a whore that has lost 300 lbs in 6 months on the Jenny crank...
So, after many failed attempts at finding a reliable road dawg, I'm saying fuck it and hitting the road on my lonesome. This is greatly inspired by Gypsybones. Reading about his trips gets my blood flowing. After doing extensive research I've put together a budget setup for those broke asses...

It's been a long time since I posted in here. If you remember, I was planning to bicycle to Montreal from Iowa. That was about sixteen months ago when I posted my plans. Well, I rode and I kept riding. I rode ten thousand miles through eight countries. This was all on a dumpstered bike and with...
Pulling off on a long cycling trail may have places for stealth camping? And connect you with a couple of urban settings.. .. http://www.bicycling.com/rides/destinations/10-of-the-best-long-rail-trails-in-the-us
Hey everyone I've been lurking here for awhile now , love all the great info. Anyways I do tree work here in Pennsylvania and have the winters off (Jan 1st- Apr 1st) where I can collect seasonal unemployment. I usually just ski bum but this winter i am seriously contemplating a bike tour , a...
Does anyone have any suggestions for making a kick stand or pole to hold up a loaded touring bike? I've never had a bike without a kickstand before. I need to make something that holds a lot of weight because I will have a semi-big load.
Good morning!
I've been conditioning myself for, and building my gear up for, a tour through Montana, ultimately heading down to Yellowstone through paradise valley.
I've got a GIANT brand aluminum frame mtn bike with disk brakes, as well as rechargeable and battery powered lights (in case I...
I am leaving tucson on my newest bike saturday . Headed across the desert westbound, gonna make a stop at Slab City then to Joshua Tree for spring bloom. After that I will be working my way toward Moab for a meet up with friends for shenanigans. Thinking I may head NE toward the upper peninsula...
I'm posting this guide with the hopes that those reading it will give me input to make it better and point out flaws and gaps in the guide. Please see the first reply for more info!
