    Neat way to use plastic.

I don't know how many people on here knit, but my friend knitted me a blanket out of plastic bags. It's one of the coolest things I own. Just a little scratchy, but I slept outside last night and it kept me really warm. I think she used roughly 3-4 hunderd bags to make a pretty big blanket...

    thermal-insulated tarps

after a short winter panhandling trip with 3 blankets, I've realized that blankets aren't made for outside sleeping in the cold. my solution to this problem is 2 emergency blankets, 1 as a ground covering and 1 as a blanket. after spending $8 on 2 emergency blankets I realized they will quickly...

    Sleeping bags

I've been looking for a small sleeping bag, and I dont think there is such a thing. I picked up a regular sized bag, my friend said it was the smallest one he'd ever seen, but the thing isnt going to fit in my pack. I figure I'll just strap the thing on there. Is there a preferred method anyone...

    Bed roll

Is it any more difficult to catch rides with a bed roll strapped to your pack? Just seems to make it look like you are carrying so much more and maybe ppl will be less apt to pick you up if you look super loaded down.. Especially if you're traveling with say... Two others and a dog. Yeah? No?

Help picking an extra-tall sleeping bag?

So I've finally had enough of my old sleeping bag and I'm looking to replace it. The only thing making this difficult is finding one that will fit well. I'm 6'3. I obviously need something that I can use all year. I was thinking maybe something with a removable liner and maybe a bivy. Also...

    Modifying Sleeping Bags?

Has anyone tried this before? I have a 0 degree bag that is a bit too big and heavy to be carrying around constantly, and I doubt I'll be voluntarily going to any place where it gets that cold. I want to cut and sew it a bit to make it smaller and lighter. I know that will greatly compromise...
