Hi I'm in South Carolina, I'm not from here though, iv had a lot of experience squatting and urban exploring, iv actually never train hopped though, and iv lived the rubbertramp life in bands even though I don't know how to drive (epilepsy), but my brother is really set on this house boat dream and I just want to expand my horizons and learn new things. Like even starting with a kayak. I just want to know how to get started as a complete novice in learning how to live off the water harmoniously or be in sync with the water life if you know what I mean man. I'm more familiar with the inner city and the desert so I'm fascinated by the land out here. Thank you

You mentioned Cormac McCarthy in another post, I'm currently reading blood meridian. Oh well random....But....

I lived on a 21ft 1972Chrysler Sailboat in the Florida keys for 8 months. I payed 3800 cash for boat/motor/trailer in 2022. Had to drive to Tampa to buy. Made sure she was sea worthy in the canals before finding a place to drop anchor in about 12ft of water at high tide. Then sold the trailer for 900cash. I was about 1/2 mile from my truck. At first I was using my 12ft kayak for to and from the boat. But after a month a made a diy dingy/tiny fishing boat out of a plastic bass/pond boat. I was working concrete construction at the time so cash was quite plentiful for grub and booze. I had a yeti style cooler, a two burner butane stove and 3 solar panels to recharge 3 carsize batteries. The on the hook life is something special but you will constantly be repairing random things... mostly electric (saltwater destroys everything in time).

I'm a Florida man so heat I can deal with fine but there's only so many poops in a trash bag on a sweaty night I could stomach, plus the stress of all my material stuff being left floating while I worked or made supply runs got old. I would leave around $2300 of dingy, motor in the mangroves with fingers crossed no one ganked or screwed with while I was away for hours.....

I ended up selling the motor for 2700cash, the dingy+moto for 1600cash and gave the boat to a local homebum named Jose before I started living out of a rucksack and trainhopping. I still do miss catching mangrove snapper for tacos and using the fisheads and bones for my stone crab traps.

Consider a tropical location for your boat because if she sinks in bathwater temperature water you most likely won't die🤷

If there is anything specific you would like to know please ask. I'll do my best help if I can.
✌️💚

Bless you so much for the thorough reply buddy. I want to start reasonable. Like before we do the houseboat thing I'd like to acclimate myself. For example: making a raft. Like a real raft I could reasonably cruise down just me and my guitar and not for a great distance. But like a basic starter mission.
