Hitchhiking the Trans-Canada is a breeze. The only other way West really is through Sault Ste. Marie or Windsor/Detroit into the states.

Ill be leaving in 2-3 weeks. Hitching is very easy after u pass toronto area. People will often gobus or gotrain to barrie then hitch from there. It is illegal to hitch 400 series highways.
