I saw that a few weeks ago. I've been renting my house out in the ln the pnw for relatively cheep to get it repaired and fixed primarily. Ive already made the decision to not boot anyone if they cant afford it. Which has not been a problem yet. But with property taxes and repairs in order its kinda a fucked situation for everyone.
So if landlords cant get their rent to pay their bills and houses get foreclosed or taken by back taxes then communities start to fold from the inside out. Its really a very large tragic situation thats quickly getting out of control

Freezing rent is preposterous, our president is a real estate developer. Hes also a fascist piece of shit but it doesn't matter. Politics is fueled by property taxes. Fuck almost every government branch is fueled by property taxes. You don't see any government in the middle of nowhere like the yukon and its because theres no taxes in the middle of nowhere.
Ya, rent freezes shouldn't just stop at renters. It should go to mortgages too. There should be some sort of help with property taxes...but then again fuck, people who buy a 5th home in OC and rent it out for astronomical prices, or vacation rental, should lose that shit if their millionaire asses cant save any money for property taxes. Bout fucking time rich people experience the recession like the rest of us.
It is ridiculous that these people are telling single mothers they should have 'saved for a rainy day'. That pisses me off beyond belief.
I heard a Latino woman from El Paso on NPR talking about how hard she worked to get into the country and provide for her family. It was enlightening....until she said that she now has made a 'comfortable' living buying properties in lower income Latino neighborhoods and flipping them into AirBnB rentals.
That also pissed me off...beyond belief. Fucking lost all credibility. That is now the new 'American Dream'.
I agree entirely that the system is broken, now more so than ever. My house was my late mothers house that was and a will be the only thing I have ever inherited in my life. Probably not worth much honestly by California standards.
But for someone like me, a combat veteran who has struggled with homeless his entire life (34 years), the value is insurmountable. Knowing that if O needed to i could live there has helped me psychologically like no other.
Im not making a profit off of it, if anything it has costed me money I dont have. But the fact that it is there is a good feeling I have never had before. Even with the va loan I would never be able to afford a house in California. All the money the house has produced (a miserly amount) has bern reinvested back into the house since it has been in my name.
Such is life. What people look at as a silver spoon really is not. For me it's a responsibility to invest in this place so i can have a place to live when I need it. Or in the case now a cousins family who needs it.

No one's saying you need to loose your mother's house dude. Landlords should get write offs for maintenance and their mortgage payments postponed, and tenants shouldn't have to worry about rent till everyone can go back to work safely.
