Hey everyone, my name is Maximilian but you can call me Max, Maximus, anything you'd like really.
I'm a student on break in Omaha NE and I just happened to stumble on this website after reading through a series of articles about world traveling and hoboing.

A little bit about myself: I'm really just a big nerd with aspirations of travel. I sit around my apartment most of the time watching Netflix, I even live in downtown Omaha (which is full of life) but my motivation barely reaches the front door. My life is in need of a revamp, of which the likes have never been seen. I tend to read a lot, my favorite authors are: Coelho, Hemingway, and Lee (Stan Lee). Nothing gets me like a good comic book. I don't have many world views, I really just want to live my life and enjoy it too.

To put it simply, I need to get out of Omaha. Whether it be two weeks, six months, or ten years, I've lived here all 19 years of my life and college just isn't working for me right now. I've never train hopped, but I'd like to. I've never hitch hiked, but that won't stop me. The thing is, I'm terrified of doing it alone. I have sort of an idea of where I'd like to end up (West, anywhere far West), but I don't have anyone willing to help me out or go with me. I need that push, the kind of push a first-timer needs when skydiving. Haha!

Well, here I am! I a greatly humbled to be a part of this community and I can't wait to connect with you folks.

Welcome aboard there Max! I'm on a lull from travel and I miss it. But I also like the planning so that's what I'm doing now - planning my next adventure. So that's where you are too. :) Pick a spot and go for it!!

Hi @Maximus, Welcome to the board. If you are looking for that push some of the stories will inspire you to make that leap out of Omaha. Luckily for you though if you wanted to first try something more lowkey besides hitching or trainhopping I suggest a megabus tour which I know doesnt go west but it goes a LOT of places for cheap esp if you employ hidden city tactics. It would start the travel bug and might be what you need not to be scared of hitching becuase of the shit that comes with simply just being "out there" ime. Just a suggestion of course, I only travel to travel by any means while others hitch hike to hitch hike and hop to hop if that makes any sense... whatever happens I wish you the best of luck!

Lol. You remind me of me, before my first hitch. My first hitch trip actually only happened because of a lie, and I was terrified the whole time, so if I can do it you can too. :p Check out the site, read some stories, get to know people. The world out there is awesome. There is a FUCK of a lot outside Omaha. I've been through like six times, and believe me, once you leave you may never go back. :p Anywho, good luck with your travels, fair gladiator.

It's awesome to wake up and see all of these nice responses and good vibes! :)

Truly, I already feel like a member of the family; everyone has that "Midwest Hospitality" attitude.

I'm definitely turning into an info junkie at this point and I'm buzzing through articles. Thanks for all of the support and welcomes, I really appreciate it!

You're welcome. Someone once said (I forget who) that the people of StP (Squat the Planet) treat strangers better than most people treat their friends. I've always taken pride in this fact and it's one of the reasons why so many people hang around. Don't be afraid to comment on things or voice your opinion. This site and the people who inhabit it are literally the most accepting group of shameless laze-abouts and gutter trash I've ever met. ;)
