Or is pretty cool. Was way better 5+ years ago. Crustlords found it and devistaed the area. Locals are not nearly as nice or helpful to travelers any more since the massive dirty kid decent/ migration tho. Its cool, but really not what it once was. Turns out old hippies have gained a deep disrespect for the whole dirty kid/ crustlord scene unfortunately.
 
That's a shame, but I've never been to Oregon - at all - not even driven through it, so I can't lament what I never knew.

I guess I'd have it easier being as I've never been there, than people who have and seen a decline.

I get it. Everyone thinks Florida's so awesome and being a native, I'm like, "well, it was good 40 years ago, but tourism - a la theme parks - have ruined it."

Just like I never saw the more awesome Oregon so I can't miss it, most people never saw the once, awesome, Florida so they can't miss that, either.

I have some friends who are out there who love it there - and as a mostly free of fuel free life and the one girl leads off road rides with husband who builds and maintains trails. They love it in Seattle. Probably my next trip will be out that way. Just so she can kick my ass on the mtb trails and so I can blame the fact I don't have my own bike with me. Gotta have an excuse hehe

WA is a different world and culture from or. You piss off the wrong person here you might get shot and the cops will be like meh who cares. WA is the best, but you got to be a heady and rugged individual here. Spangers have gotten the shit beat out of them by locals on multiple occasions around and the cops don't care. It's very socialist in Seattle, and very rugged take the law into you own hands libertarian in the small towns. If you contribute to the community you will make many friends, if you're a leach you will be driven out or worse. Great place I love it. Just don't be a piece of shit or you will get some hard life lessons in the small towns around here. People love guns and coffee in that order here. More work around then you can shake a stick at out here so spangers are hurled out quicker than I have seen else where. A home bum just got is face wrecked last night because someone offered him a job and he said he doesn't need one.

Oregon is great. Coast is laid back and liberal, inland is laid back and conservative =P

Lot more to the state then the coast, too, btw. Get east of the cascades and its dry, rugged, with amazing rivers, mountain roads, dreamy hillscapes, either velvet green or golden depending on the season. Top of Mckenzie pass is a huge lava field with wet coastal type forest on one side, dry ponderosa forest on the other. Pretty sweet place.

I have, my entire life. Now, if I lived in the Keys, that would be okay, because it's a totally different world down there.

But I moved from tourist destination, to retiree destination.

Shame too, because the area I'm in now, wasn't always like this.

You are so right about the difference of Oregon and Wasington. Astoria is pretty cool but cross the bridge into Long Beach Washington and its Redneck city lots of mean nasty meth heads too.
