Edit: I read old posts so am aware ... But dude needs help he's blind and it's cold

Link to an article confirming it. Mark Nichols aka Shoestring has passed. His body was recovered from Boone Lake.

Mark was found deceased. This is the parting of a legend and an exemplary hobo for how the train riding community should seek to be represented. Known details are online. My deepest sympathy and condolences.

Obituary

Mark Wayne "Shoestring" Nichols, 53, of Johnson City, TN, passed away on Friday, April 5, 2024.

Mark lived his life on his own terms, bound only by his desire for adventure and love of the rails. Through hundreds of online videos, Mark shared his life and knowledge of traveling with hundreds of thousands of fans worldwide.

Mark was a diligent and loving son to his mother and a steadfast friend to his siblings. He is preceded in death by his father James Nichols, grandmother Mertice Montgomery, and grandfather Guy Montgomery. He is survived by his mother Karen Montgomery, siblings Ross Nichols, Mary Nichols, and Jessica Nichols, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are being made and will be announced at a later time.

Trinity Memorial Centers Funeral Home (423-723-8177) is honored to serve the family.
 
I'm subscribed to @AnywhereMan on youtube, have been for a little while now. He posted a great video and is doing a trip in memory of Shoestring. Highly reccomended watch and mad respect to @AnywhereMan for doing this. Please give all credit to him, not me for posting this.
