How to get a FREE sleeping bag or bagz?

I'm extremely tight on fundz right now, most of da money i make goes towards personal shit and grub. Need me a FREE good decent sleeping bag or bagz for fall camping. I pitched a tent in da backyard of my mothers house, have some fuzzy warm blankets, but still find myself cold. Any suggestions/advice on getting a free sleeping bag or bags. thanx for much <3
 
I've been given sleeping bags in the past at church run soup kitchens. They didn't openly advertise that they had anything to give away but I asked them if they knew where I could get a blanket and they gave me a sleeping bag. I've also been helped out by the salvation army.
 
oh you could ask at shops that sell camping gear and see if they have any ex display sleeping bags or damaged ones or perhaps see if they have a dumpster to rummage in, It's a long shot, but you never know.
 
I stopped by a day center for the homeless in Fredericksburg, VA for a shower and they offered free sleeping bags, tents, backpacks, boots; you request whatever you need and they get donors to get whatever specific item you need.

Anyway, try asking at a day center or a shelter. Maybe even soup kitchens or churches that offer services for the homeless.
 
At the start of winter, usually around thanksgiving or maybe up to a month before, soup kitchens and random organizations give them away like candy. Prime free sleeping bag giveaway time is typically between thanksgiving and Christmas.

Yea around black Friday is the shit. Might be able to get some good quality stuff for cheap. Especially electronics and such.. jeez why am I so off topic recently..
 
Creature did have a good point(as usual lol) I know the mormons used to do it in SLC back in the day.You worked for them for a day and they basically gave you a sleeping bag a jacket some food and a tent.So they could get you out of town.
 
go busk or spange outside of an outdoors store or something. i lost my sleepingbag once when it fell off of my backpack. i made a sign that explained and in while i had a brand new bag and a 20$ gift card to rei... results may vary but its worth a shot

curious, what did your sign say?

i dont really like spanging/holding up a sign because i think should do odd jobs for my money, but sometimes you gotta do what u gotta do.

Was thinking of making & holding a sign in front of wallmart explaining that i need is a sleep bag or in front of Vaule Village, its a big ass thrift shop in Thunder Bay,

the sign i made said something like "sleeping bag stolen, it gets cold sleeping outside" also i wasn't walking up to anybody and asking directly. i just plop down with my gear and exist.
 
I've yet to be lucky enough to come across a free sleeping bag, but I'll be on the lookout in this time of year. I need camping stuff in general.

I've heard that thrift stores and churches have sleeping bags, but it's all luck of the draw.

I like funny signs like "Allergic to Water, Need Beer" ... with a friend I made about 40 pounds with that in two and a half hours ... :)
