Roll of toilet paper in a coffee can, pour in a bottle of rubbing alcohol/denatured alcohol, what have you,,but becareful, its hard to see burning alcohol in the light, and carbon dioxide will put ya to sleep, forever.

This is a awful idea please do not use this method to keep warm. Yer wasting shit tickets. Denatured alcohol works just as well without toilet paper.

There's a gazillion gallons of oil/grease behind damn near every restaurant, thin it with alcohol if you must.

Sounds useful. How warm does it get?
And how do ignite grease/oil? I thought it had a much higher ignition point then say, alcohol

Dunno, but it is combustible. Use maybe several cotton wicks and burn like a lamp, won't burn as easily as alcohol, but should do the trick. Some alcohol or lighter fluid should bring down the ignition point. Don't get hurt (er...Be Safe!)

For a cotton wick would a rolled up rag or a chunk of cotton t-shirt be enough?

I'm not sure, might generate more light than heat. I was thinking of several short wicks (cotton rope by the foot at a hardware store). May have to experiment with ratios/thickness to get it right.

mop strings work, cut off a can and use a flat strip of scrap to go across the top, like a cup with a bridge over the top. poke a hole or several in the bridge, fold mop string in half, feed mop string loop through the hole so it hangs down into the can of oil on the bottom of the 'bridge' , and about a half inch or so of loop sticking through the top of the bridge, that's you wick, the oil soaks up to the flame like a lamp, make string go to bottom of oil so it don't burn out befor the oils gone. don't knock over your lamp
