Hello all,

I've been squatting (haha bet you haven't heard that before) StP for a few months now; not really sure if this lifestyle is for me or not. Either way- you all are one hell of a story tellers and give me hope that there is like minded people out there who haven't given into the norm and maybe just maybe I'm not crazy...

My name is Colbey, I live in Madison WI. I'm 23 and have been interested in raiding the rails for quite some time. (yea crazy I know) When I was going to UWM I had this weird feeling that college and my degree were going to take me down a path of nine to fives, whole lotta stress and the feeling that I didn't belong in the mainstream. I made it two years (should have just gotten an associate degree grr) and never registered for my third. I left feeling a live. Capable of doing just about anything. Plus my childhood was a non-stop move, so I've kind of learned to love and embrace change. I bounced around for a few years living with friends sleeping in my jeep etc etc.

I started working for a body shop here in Madison (where I graduated from high school) and they taught me how to write estimates on damaged vehicles. I'm really enjoying what I do- and who I work for... but still get the itch to move on and the feeling I ended up exactly where I didn't want. Thankfully I've found this website and have been reading countless post and first hand accounts from you guys! It really killed the vibe (seeing how rough this lifestyle is) but has also give me a whole new respect for it. Kind of slowed me down and made me see the fine lines..

I don't know if I'll ever be "train core" or if I will ever even do it. But its an awesome escape from reality even seeing it thru your prospective. When I was kid i always wanted to do some crazy and stupid adventure, and even now this pulls me in. I work next an active line and everyday it sounds like heaven bells are ringing, begging me to join in.

Thanks for reading and nice to meet you! (even though I know most of you from your post) :)

Welcome to STP! The stories and writings from the people here led me to register a while ago. I just happened upon it in one of my many searches on the internet. I do travel (used to hitch a lot years ago) via long distance bicycling (I've been stagnant on that the last couple of years and that needs rectified) - but that is how I got here and never left. Welcome!

Hey thanks ladys,

If i can say, this really should be anyone's first stop if they are really truly considering a nomadic lifestyle. Lots of good info that will probably save your life! It really gives you a small view into an unknown world.

Andrea-

Yeah I made one stupid post and read countless other post and decided I should really learn about this stuff myself rather then begging for help. Thats why I kind of stayed hidden, just reading. Getting to know people- be it the internet or not, is always a plus. Plus I've read so many of stories from you guys on here, I figured what the hell. My lease is up at the end of March and my roommate got love stricken so he moved out so I guess im just exploring options. Can't keep paying 825 a month on top of all the other bills affiliated with having an apartment.

Lol I am stuck sponging for the next little while(legal entaglements can do that). It does take the edge off some for sure.As it also allows me to keep semi current with what is going on.Welcome and enjoy my friend.

Welcome to the most awesome web site that I have ever been on. No matter where I am at I always find a library to use their computers just to see what is going on with others on S.T.P.

Hey thanks everyone. Good to see so many of people respond. Much appreciated. Every-one of you inspire me to try something new and most important- travel. Although there is downfalls and hardships, like anything us humans do adapt. Just not sure loosing my arm is a chance I'm willing to take haha or maybe it is..

anyways thanks everyone for the welcome
