I am located on vancouver island and want to start travelling pretty soon. Possibly looking for someone to go with whos been doing this for awhile
 
i saw your concerns (in the chat room) about traveling in the cold, but i don't think you'll have any problems up until october. i'd say hitch the 101 down south somewhere warm for a while. you should go check out slab city, everyone starts to show up around late sept/october and the weather is super nice down there.
 
I agree on the passport bit. I have some friends I haven't seen in a few years in Toronto and really need to touch base with them. Probably after the first of the year I'll make the plunge and get the passport ...
