So I'm "deployed" to Sicily and flew my friend out for spring break. Found an old castle and an abandoned winery among other things:
Italy does a really good job of leaving tags up all over the place, we saw some really great ones but didn't stop to take pictures of them. Was stuck in Palermo traffic next to this so I got it, there was some amazing art on the sides of other buildings that I wish I'd gotten
A Castle we had hoped to explore that was closed down to visitors, unfortunately
Church steeple, same town as the Castle, once again closed
Further down the hill from the castle, found part of it that had the door kicked in and snuck our way down
We're not completely positive, but we believe these structures to be an abandoned winery
No way to know for sure, but we estimated these barrels to be 500-800 gallons based on their size...Enough wine to last forever, unfortunately they were all empty
The entrance to a cellar like cave dug straight into the rock
The roof in it was 15-20 feet up and it went about 100 feet back into the rock, wonderful cave
Winery from a distance, can't tell in the picture but there are about ten buildings there sitting on a couple acres
Back at home cookin; Caprese with toasted rye baguette, Spaghetti in Pesto and Salads for dinner
