Well I'm new and will be honest, I have not done any sort of vagabond travel. In fact I was hoping to get some guidance.

I've always had a romantic fascination with hitchhiking. I was born into a family of carnies and had spent most of my childhood living on a carnival so I saw my fair share of hitchhikers. I myself have never been able to man up and partake in it.

I live in the western most part of New York in a small town named Ripley, my house is situated between I-90 and some railroads so the temptation is crazy, but I always find myself making a sign and packing my bag but never actually sticking my thumb in the air.

Well that's me and my unfortunate Philia and phobia of vagabond travel, how are you guys?

Welcome to the site. We all start in different places and have different paths in this life.
STP has some of the best information on travel on the cheap I have seen on the interwebs. It is also just such a darn swell place to hang out. :) Nice folks and community.
Please take your time. Research and learn about the different vagabond lifestyles.
I think at least in my opinion the start to get over your phobia part of traveling is to get involved in a community.
You are already here at stp... you could also upload an avatar at some point, one of yourself or an image that reflects your personality or mood at the time.
As you can see... I am a fan of the Dude. And the Dude abides. ;)

Hitch up to Newfoundland. Its not very far from NY. :)

Newfoundland eh? Adding that to my list. ;d
What I would give to sit you down for some good craft beer or single malt scotch and pick your brain for all the classy hobo spots. haha...
