bringing bmx

I was wondering if anyone's brought like a bmx bike with them at all, or a small bike... id probably try and bring it along with me for everything... hitching, hopping, maybe try and catch a boat ride on the erie canal or something... obviously id ride it and whatnot when im not getting anything else... and I know it would clearly limit my rides and such hitching... but I can also get a bag that I can tear down the bike and fit it into... I would probably be able to fit any other gear I decide to bring if I bring anything... I was just thinking because I ride bmx I could bring a beater bike with me, open up my things to do when im out and about ya know... theyre only 20ish pounds

So I stole a bmx in b-ham once and took it with me to Memphis.I just tossed it on the back porch of a grainer and crawl into the fox hole. Its a good idea by train.....great idea if u know when and where it stops.limits chucking ur bike a bunch.that ruined mine when I got to memphis..rims bend ... Good idea i say in general....get a good lock ... Or treat it like ur pack.

solid, I wasn't sure if it was too much of a hassle, like if it was worth it or not... and like I said, I could get a bag made for breaking down a bmx bike with extra space for whatever else I need in it... idk still just a thought, figured id get other opinions and find out about it... was it a pain to carry along with ya?

The short little agent I had mine was not bad..let me explain that the bike was stolen to begin with I watched this bike get taken 2 xs ina hour by different ppl.I was Spanging at a gas station and watched it legit stolen then stolen by another dude and then I stole it...if u where there u would have called shenannagins and joined in too...any way ... I caught stopped trains.I usually ride at night so never a worry about a black bike on a porch of a grainer.I always pitched my bike flat and aimed for a down hill even if it ment backtrcking just a lil .just a lil not. a whole lot.I pitched it one day perfect as can be and ill be damned the handles didn't rotate and it nose pitched and bounced...there went the front rim.. I peddled a bike in nola for a bit..that was cool...a bike is a good idea for quick travel.and if u know what to ride on trains..it ain't to hard to chuck em on and off but I can't for see u getting a ride on the interstate toting one

i've only hopped a train once with a bike. it was a road bike, so it was definitely harder to get on/off, but when i got to my destination, man it was awesome to have. i also rode on a line i was pretty familiar with.

i'd say with a bike that small (bmx) fuck yeah, do it. just be careful getting on and off (no on the fly) and what could go wrong?

...also, riding your bike back and forth in a gondola on a moving train is kinda awesome.

lol Ive never rode a train either, so should I like wait until I get a lil experience before I try and bring a bike and shit along?

and I kinda figured catching on the fly would be a bad idea with a bike lol

hmmm yeah, i think i'd do a few rides first before bringing a bike. bringing a bmx bike train hopping is kinda at the 'intermediate' level :p

I agree with Matt. I would say u should defiantly feel slack action ,watched cars creep and find out why that lil red light is so annoying...before u go trying to pull a bus driver in a rocking gondola...lol

solid. well then ill keep it in mind for later on down the line.

I just figured id ask while it was on my mind... im kinda retarded and tend to forget things lol

Well its been a while and i just got to wondering...
Have u hopped out yet? u bring on the bmx? give us an update!

didn't end up going. i wouldve had to go alone, the person that said theyd go with me didnt want to because of his job (figured that wasn't too bright). and there was other things that came up, I stayed for family (theres been some really bad shit for a while now) and to a lesser extent school. lots of fucked up shit gone on in the last year. figured I could and should put it off. (that's as little complex as I can make it)

I did however apparently try hop out while I was all fucked up, stranded in the ghetto, and depressed.
on't remember doing it. my buddy just said like a week later that I called him while I was on. and apparently again after I fell off.
idk I was blacked out for a few days.

id like to go still though once some of these things get straighten out. I don't really wanna cut out with the current situations that have been at hand as lame as it sound

yeah. I hope I can get shit straight soon. I know my moms health is getting significantly better, dads still iffy but probably always will be.

and yeah. theres a few reasons. i looked like a sketchy mess when i was younger. sketchy at bmx/skateboarding one other main ones was kinda getting into wonderful situations for whatever reason and making it out fine... idk. people been calling me that and jesus for a decade now. figuring jesus would be taken, I just went with another go to name

also. theres always room to learn, and its always good to learn.

bike tools are your friend. I don't hop trains with my bmx, but my DK is my second set of legs, you know?
way easier to stow away and generally form into a useful shape if you have a multi-tool on you.

-something to protect the chain from moisture. That will be a big concern. fucker will get dirty and maybe rust real quick unless you're in the desert or something.
-a (much) longer seat-post. or a seat post extender.
-> the longer seat post and a decent pair of high-rise handlebars will make it easier to actually sit and cruise around on the bike, without making it any significantly harder to carry. If you've got the cash, a pair of racing cranks that fit your Bottom Bracket would make pedalling a significantly easier task.

-> and thorn proof the fuck out of your tires. Kevlar tubes and slime, all the way.

-> might want to think about a patch kit and emergency pump. Hauling a 30 pound bike on your shoulders isn't easy with a big frackin' ruck-sack. Trust me, they vie for the real-estate of your shoulder. It does feel a bit like taking a wounded friend out of the battle zone, but it's still a pain in the ass. Patch kits help with that.

-a hardened U-Lock, or one of those massive chains. fuck those little cable locks. I woke up one morning and those motherfuckers left the cable lock on the ground, right where I'd put my Haro the night before.
