boat build project

So I decided this morning I was gonna build a small boat from scraps harvested from the local community college.

I'll post pictures as the build gets along. I've thought about maybe trying to make a small motor for it but I need to focus on actually building it first.

Tomorrow I'm going to be working on more of the frame and siding. If anyone has any experience with building boats I'd love any advice.

Here's where I ended up today. Tomorrow I'll gut the inside and start puttying the heck out this thing.

Brilliant! There's a few great books out there that are excellent points of reference. George Buhlers "back yard boat building" is my go to. And if you ever fet into more complicated systems, such as diesel engins, rigging, lines and tackle...check out "how boat things work". Cheers!

Thanks for the info, I'll definitely look into those tonight.

Some updates

At some point we decided to make a light sailing rig to attach
View attachment 28536
I used a software to come up with a loose design and then lofted the pattern to the garage floor.

Then using a thin drop sheet I made a quick mock up.

I began the actual sail using dacron. Almost finished will post pictures when I can.

I haven't uploaded pictures to post yet but I will when I get a chance. I finished the sail. I managed to use a sewing machine on the thinner layered segments but had to hand stitch a good twenty something feet.

Its finally warm enough to epoxy and fiber glass so we'll start that here in the next couple of days.

Can't wait to see more updates!
Thanks! Hopefully I'll get some pictures up soon. Things have gotten hectic around here. Family in the hospital and such.
The bottom is fiberglassed so I'll do a leak check before flipping it and moving on to the interior/topside.
