Not a good idea. They WILL scan U.S. bound traffic. Ive met Canadian kids who have claimed they've done it but i am highly skeptical. Ie. they were wastoids.

If you try though, id recommend you pack a copy of the Karon, detailed instructions on how to derail trains, any kind of explosives you can get your hands on, and a kilo of sherm (i know yall Canuks got the good shit!)

well that was useless.
so you haven't hopped across then.
i was going to, im quite pedantic about having my koran with me.
shukran

What im basically trying to say is that they have VACIS all along the border and since 9/11 they have been pretty dead set on stopping "terrorism" from coming across the border.

If you were going the other way you would probably stand a better chance but coming into the country id say be prepared to receive Gamma rays to the dome, be pulled off, deported, and shunned.

yeah they had that shit set up in 2000 on the mexican side.
But I have heard of kids getting through, so just wondering if anyone wanted to share.
but yeah i understand where you're coming from, so thanks for the warning
cheers

Hike from some provincial park into the North Cascades National Park Complex or Okanogan National Forest. Drug runners do it. So can you!!

Yes X-Rays can be shielded with aluminum foil, though not very well which is why they make you cover your junk with a lead blanket whenever you get an xray at the dentist or dr's office. Gamma rays being way better at penetrating materials (the VACIS scanners are designed to see thru IM containers no problem) require way more shielding: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gamma_ray#Shielding

Finding a remote wildernes spot to walk across is a better/safer idea :)

my experiance is to try the roads and if that doesnt work.. a 3day pack and a compass. A budy of mine a us felon, took us 2 days of trying border stops before they waived us througb. Just because they say no at one doent mean they flag you. It just that one person saying no.

i wish you the best, but if the roads worry you the woods are your best bet. the best paths are the ones least talked about. the worst that could happen you play a fool and your lost.. actual campers will point you in the right direction just know halfway what trails your taking.

Yeah the night paddle isn't a great idea.. But when coming across in boat the first port I believe you have to stop in coming into us is anacortes. By this time you have already passed many islands in us water.

the san juan island chain (WA) is mad close to cannada, a night paddle perhaps?

Out of all the ridiculous and off topic comments on this thread, i feel like this is the most realistic for the west coast if you want to avoid the border crossing. Take a look at a map of the region and you'll see why.
Also, don't believe all this bunk about x-ray scanner crap. Plenty of people hop trains across the border, it's just 100x easier to do on the east coast. Especially between ny state / Maine and Canada. Since there are many more options than the west coast has (which is to say, only one, and it goes right by the border checkpoint).

Ok so, just wanted to update
The good news was I did cross successfully
The bad news is I told sommmeone about it and they snitched to ICE on me and found me after having just crossed...
Got arrested, they gave me chicken nuggets and fries, I chose voluntary departure, was in detention centre, didn't arrest me for possession because officer liked shrooms...
So now I'm in India :)
Thanks for all the suggestions !!
will be more aware of people I talk to next time..

Wish I could help. My only experience is at niagra falls pre 9/11. Was in a car and he asked if I was a US citizen, what I was doing in Canada and did I have anything to declare. After I answered he gave me the stink eye for about 20 seconds and waved me through. Didn't even even look at my passport.
