Photos At long last I am transitioning

Sweet! Enjoy! I loved my 80 Huntsman with the 20r. And you'll have the power of 2 hamsters with the 22re!

Beat me to it. Great engine, but I had hard time getting up hills in just my truck. Let alone an RV!

But ya, congrats! Looks nice.

Yep! Got a 91 4X4 22RE fresh rebuild only 13,000 miles on it and I was dragging ass up the mountain peaks of California, Arizona & Colorado. I can't imagine adding the weight of that camper on the back, what that would have been like. I was getting passed by loaded tractor trailers at times. It'll be great on flat land but if you got any climbs ahead of you, you might wanna pack a lunch it's gonna take a while.

How's the mpg? I've been looking at 80s class-C campers, mostly Ford, but they're all 3 speed and tend to have horrible mpg, like 6-8.5

I can tell you what I get with the same engine minus the camper weight. A whopping 17 mpg highway, 15 mpg city. For a 4 cylinder that 22RE sure is a gas hog.

The interior looks good but there are a few leaks, in order to take out the carpet I’m gonna have to everything.
As for the gas mileage it’s like a 12 gallon tank roughly and I get about 150 miles.
Gonna swap out the exhaust manifold and get a little better mpg and push. I’ll see what I can do to up the mileage as much as

It don’t go nowhere fast, but it goes and it doesn’t really bother me considering, I don’t know, it’s my house.

I have to replace a lot of things cause of the age, but it’s getting me the experience I need cause I don’t know shit about cars.

That's a great engine to cut your teeth on, if your goal is to learn how to work on vehicles. Plenty of wiggle room for the hands. You can see everything from the top and sides. It's all pretty self explanatory. Definitely better than working on a Miata or some little cramped sideways engine shit like that.

Yay! I transitioned myself back in May after years of dreaming. It's been both more difficult and more amazing than I ever dreamed. You're gonna love it.

I have been (very) slowly rebuilding the overhead bunk, the weather has been shit so often down here, not to mention the lack of funds coming in since they cut covid unemployment in aug. I also swapped out the exhaust manifold. then when I was replacing the valve cover gasket I found this ?!😲!? couldn't believe it.

Roller rockers?

[Edit] Oh nvm I zoomed in. Dual overhead cam? I'm no mechanic but that's what it looks like to me? Isn't that a 22RE? I wasn't aware it had dual overhead. 2.4L? What am I looking at? I never took my valve cover off. I just sold my 1991 4X4 22RE for $2600, it only had 16,000 miles in it, rebuilt not long ago. That was so hard to let go, but the body was so fucked from rolling it I just didn't have the desire to do the work and I was kinda sick of 17MPG tbh. Yeah it'll last forever but that's a fucking gas hog of a 4 cylinder if there ever was one. I get 36MPG in my new ride, feels good.
