hey yall, i posted this in this section because it covers like... every section, and I thought posting each individual thing in its own section would annoy people with spam posts. if this should go somewhere else ill gladly move the post.
anyway, im in the process of getting a list of gear, and...
how do yall organize your tools? im in the process of gathering gear rn and i noticed i have a LOT of tools - i'll probably slim the list down but im wondering how people keep track of all of it. used the StP gear list guide, if yall have any comments on my current list LMK!!!!
Do you guys fish while on the road? I fish all the time when i can being from the pnw its a right of passage what do you fish with ? And what tackle do you use i use a two peace bamboo rod with my daiwa 7300 damn reels indestructible
I would prefer one with a sheath that can strap to a belt or something. Also are throwing knifes practical? They would be cool to have but don't seem to have much use, other than being a cheap, legal though less effective replacement for a gun.
Was reading through some of the self-defense/self-defense tools threads and thought I'd share my experience with carrying this thing as I really like it:

For what it is, which is a pure self-defense...
So, I've been volleying around the idea of hosting a workshop of rehandling basic tools. I.e. hammers and such of that nature.
Thinkin' I'll try to grab a few heads at a flea market or something. And grab a few handles from whatever hardware store that has close enough sizes.
Eh??
You know, I got to thinking, the knife is a fundamental tool.
Not only is it a weapon, but it's also a tool. As a matter as fact, I would even argue that it is more of a tool than it is a weapon. Unless we're talking about a Bowie knife that thing's a fuckin weapon, primarily, there's no way...
not sure if this is the best subforum, more about people than art isn´t it? and wouldn´t want it lost in general banter, but I have no qualms should a moderator want to move this -
Here we go - it´s 18 minutes and fastpaced, very little if any filler
disclaimer: it´s a TEDtalk, I don´t know...
I just found out black powder revolvers - real old replica six shot ones with lead balls not bullets - can be mail ordered. Mostly I just want one cause it's so fucking awesome but is it a bad idea to carry a gun like this on the road?
First off: I'm not entirely sure this is posted in the right section. If its not, feel free to let me know and/or change it.
That said, in a recent post in the trainhopping subforum, it was mentioned that intermodal transport offers little to no shelter from the weather unless you can find a...
Been thinking about heading to Houston this winter to visit a friend of mine that recently moved, I live in Central Virginia
Don't see any threads about guns here, is there a reason for that? I was gonna buy one soon anyways but I'd figure it'd be a good weapon for self protection and my state...
For those who tinker and toil. For infiltration and exfiltration what the hell even emergency situations! I show you my tool kit! 2 inch vise grips. Lil crescent. Razor knife. Multi tool. Fero fire stick. pencil. Water key. Multi screwdriver. Magnifying glass. Looking to find ideas to add to...
Cali seems to have a unique way of making understanding thier knife laws damn near impossible. Have looked online and the closest thing I found to making sense and not being contradictory was a lawyers site, which proceeded to tell me that different areas may enforce things differently. Wtf. I...
Does anyone have experience with a sling (not a slingshot)? I know it's a good weapon, but I want to hear if anyone has experience using one on the road, and if it's worth the time to practice
A friend just gave me one of these and it is really powerful. Took a while to find out what it was called but I finally found the website. https://www.thepocketshot.com/store/c1/Featured_Products.html
Shot some rocks with it and was really impressed. Fairly new product but I will add this to my...
I believe that this should be a nice little app that you might want to keep handy on your android phone or what-not. Some of you could find yourselves uploading videos/photos of your travels but avoiding the use of 3G/4G mobile data to do so.
Meanwhile, most public wi-fi hotspots can act so...
I've got a small (roughly like 1ft x 9inchs) dewalt bag with my drill, charger, battery, sawsall, and few other basic tools, I'd like to bring with me soon to keep money coming in. weighs maybe 20lb
any pros and cons from experience?
I just got back from a few day trip out in the Elliott State Forest and while I was out there I had an idea on how to improve my troll pole. I should start by explaining that a troll pole is a device used for stoking fires. Usually metal and a few feet long, pinched off at one end; the pole...
So I read the other threads related to this idea but I have another question about it and did not want to necro old threads.
So, I know, the greatest weapon is my mind and to learn how to avoid dangerous situations and places. Yet the few times Ive had the shit kicked out of me, I regretted not...
It'll be on the side of my backpack so it won't be concealed. And i also have a bunch of camping gear such as a tarp, tent, sleepign bag ect.. I'm wondering if anyone had a problem from the police. I'm also a felon.
Also can i carry a pocket knife under 4ins in my pocket if im a felon.

Im a person that likes to take care of their knife, even if it means extra weight on my back. Ive spent countless hours over the years obsessing over the sharpness of my favorite knife, trying to make a blade razor sharp with inadequate sharpening tools.
Ive since gained some intuitive...
I've got a belt folding knife and some tools I've collected for various reasons in my back pack. I'd like to lose the weight and get a multi tool that is good enough. I'm thinking about a Stanley? It's cheep enough and good enough.? Not sure. Ideas??
started doing this about a year ago. was fed up with going through so many razors. the plastic guard is completely unnecessary. the only part of the guard that is important is the sides near the corner of the blade.
this is what you need:
a single blade disposable (dual blades will still...
A few people liked the thread about the ScotteVest. So I will list all the things I carried in it and why. Also keep in mind. I carried all of this stuff and managed to keep the big pocket pretty much empty.
LockPicks- Carried in the upper right breast pocket. These things helped so much and...
This is a commercial water key. It turns on any water faucet without a handle like those found on commercial properties or at some d-bags house who has removed the handle. It also opens the enclosure boxes that protect the faucet from tampering and will turn on the underground main some homes

Hey ya'll, the other day I decided to make a new sheath for my 7" blade I've had since I was 4. The old one is plastic, a bit heavy, and just downright cheesy. I had some spare leather so creativity got the better of me....
For reinforcement, and protection from the knife cutting through...
I studied Gracie Brazilian Ju Jujitsu for three years. I have a blue belt and experienced the joys of what Gracie style had to offer.

A new member said that they had purchased a knife or was advised to purchase one for self defense. I gave the advice that I learned in Martial Arts. I took professional knife fighting classes. I've forgotten most of it as I've never needed to stab anyone.
The first thing we were taught was to...
I just finished up a work on my motorbike and I think I perfected the balance of tools I need for most stuff on it and weight / space limits.
Got me thinking what do other people carry for like vans or whatever you're driving riding or cycling.
For my Yamaha I keep all this stuff in the...
anyone carried or thought on it? There is a few on amazon rated to 55 pound draw and breaks down to 16 inches. Feasible for a pack and not illegal as carrying a breakdown .22 or something. silent and easy to get away with. I used to shoot longbow all the time and miss the hell out of it. I enjoy...
Anyone who's gonna be in Slab City for the jambo and is interested I'll go through the basics of framing with someone and provide basic tools. Hammer, belt, so on. Stuff that's redundant to me. I can't make you a master carpenter but it might help you get some work down the line in construction...
Now I can't confirm this myself but I was just browsing Reddit and came across a couple tips that may be handy to our members from the UK. Apparently most locked dumpsters can be opened with a triangle key like this. The same thread also mentioned that there's a key called a RADAR key that opens...
Hey guys, I've been debating whether I should get myself a grizzly killing machine. I already know what I'd get, just can't decide if I'd be better off with one verses the bear spray I already carry. 50/50 Alaskans here tell me I should, but then again it wouldn't help much with a close up...
Apologies in advance if this is the wrong section for this...
I'll be crossing into Canada soon via hitchhiking, legal with passport but have long going questions about the knife laws. I have a large Bowie knife for survival and defense, but read and heard mixed feelings about knives and what...
So I'm thinking about one of these riot sticks
http://thisisindecline.com/rack/category/all/the-riot-stick
Looks like it would be a good alternative to a mag light added that it's collapsible and menacing looking.
What are othe peoples thoughts? Is there anything that could get you in...
hey so i really enjoy geology rocks/minerals and i since ive been thinking about what im packing recently was wondering if it was realistic to carry a rock pick. not a huge tool but probably a few pounds, i could find a way to strap it to my bag but i can also imagine it causing some issues...

While carrying a swiss army knife and a multitool, in your experiemce, which one of these do you think would be most useful?

I have this (quarter)staff which I plan on carrying on my travels to use as a rough terrain support and a on-hand weapon. Considering I'll be going around Europe (in the beggining at least) do you think I might get trouble with the police over it while firmly stating that I use it to support my...
Just wondering who has carried one of these and what brand/models they like. I'm looking for a fast opening blade that is lighter and more accessible then the bulky fixed blade or multitool I have. Not really interested in a stiletto style knife just a cheap automatic folder.
If you're not opposed to buying from wallyworld they have recently added several ozark trail knives for $3.87. I picked one up for a gift and got one for myself. I got the model 4028 "Tan flip opening knife" which features a 3" stainless steel blade and a 4" tan G10 handle. I chose this one...
Hey all,
What do you have on you that makes you feel safe, with or without having to use it? What are it's pros and cons? You can also post what you want to have, and it's known pros and cons.
I have mace. Legal in most states, and people just seeing that you have it makes most of them back...
I carry a hatchet and folding saw in my everyday pack. Mostly for shelter building. I like the Estwing campers hatchet. Solid steel and tough. You can drive nails with the back end (poll) and get the edge wicked sharp. The saw is a Corona folding pruning saw. Very light weight and super...
My dalmatian needs a lot of exercise and can catch balls faster than I can throw. I take a brännboll set, basically that is swedish baseball, but the bats are one small baseball like bat, 14 inches long and a flat paddle like bat about the same length. As long as I have some balls on me too...
