    Featured Notes on Eastern Europe

Hey! Sounds like a cool festival. Unfortunately we didn't go to Timisoara so I don't know anyone there. We mostly met people in Brasov and Sibiu. I do know that there's a cool black metal band based in Timisoara called Negura Bunget. I feel like they might be involved in a traditional music...

hello again! I realized I haven't made an update in over a week and I'm bored here in Kraków, drinking a beer and thought "why not make a somewhat drunk post on StP?" since we last spoke: 1. I went to Prague! it was full of American and Australian twats and everything was more expensive than the...

Romania and Hungary 5.21.16-5.31.16 Gonna try to make this one brief, but with lots of pictures! After Poenari Castle we hitch hiked to Cozia Nat'l Park: A lot of the vehicles that stop to pick you up are these "maxi-taxis" that charge a couple lei to get you from one village to another. We...

though we have warm gear, we weren't expecting snow up there! we ended up staying at this "hut" which was actually a heated dorm style place with electricity and hot cheap food. a glass of wine for 1 lev (50 cents). a bowl of soup for 2 lev. there we met a couple Germans and a couple Israeli...

UPDATE: Since I last posted we left Sofia and hitch hiked north to Ledenika and saw some caves. It was 6 lev (about $3.50) for a ticket and they wouldn't let you go in without a guided tour. I wasn't really into that but the cave itself was dark, creepy and metal as fuck. Ledenika cave was...

    Featured Notes on Eastern Europe

I don't know the local languages, but I've been using every opportunity to learn. When we first got to Bulgaria I got a free town map of Bankso which has some very basic phrases on it ("hello", "thank you", "how much?"). Knowing how to say 'thank you' in the local language proved to be very...

    Featured Notes on Eastern Europe

I flew into Athens, Greece 10 days ago and wanted to start a thread documenting some observations/maybe advice for people that might be aspiring to travel to this area. I wish I had something like this before I went, so here it goes, in list form cuz why not? 1. lots of cologne and perfume in...

Fellow Trans* and genderqueer adventurers! Where are you all?

Queer and non binary/ gender fluid checking in. I'm often looking for other queers on the road but it's mostly straight white cis dudes. I find myself keeping quiet a lot to stay safe, which is depressing but real. If I'm hitching and someone assumes I'm female, I feel like it's better for my...

News & Blogs Don't let fear stop you from traveling! (comic)

i get discouraged from traveling alone ALL THE TIME. from my family, friends, acquaintances, and from tons of strangers who think i'm some helpless confused girl who needs to be saved. it's really frustrating, and it's mostly from people who haven't traveled the way i have and don't really know...

    Food costs?

hey, also coming late to the convo, but i did a bike tour down the coast of California last year and wanted to contribute from my experience. for the first part of the trip i didn't have an alcohol stove - i made it through eating mostly cold food, but i would have been much happier to have hot...

    Best places in America?

farmington, maine is pretty friendly and if you can't find a stranger to crash with there is unlimited camping space in the surrounding woods. i've always had good luck in Austin and northern cali (like north of arcata). fort collins, co is great if you're on bike and people are friendly.

    Places You Hate Most

florida! god, i hate that place. been there twice, both times i felt like i was stuck there forever and it's just sprawling strip malls and churches everywhere. i'm also not a fan of newport, rhode island.
