I say carry camp axe in your bag. Strapped on the side will get you stopped by the cops every time they see it. My bundle it away and IF stopped and asked about "weapons" just be cool and say I have a camp hatchet for firewood. I was stopped with a huge pack on and a weapon inside and never...
If someone is selling at $2k an acres in southeast TN, you better ckeck and double check and find out what is wrong with it. Most 5 acres plots are going for $35k and up. Hell most 1-2 acres are $10k and up. And this is land worth buying. Don't buy in a flood zone or a very low lying swampy...
Not on site yet. I was waiting on official paperwork. I also have work that will put some money in the bank here in TN as I wait for warmer weather. Looking at mid-May. See my other thread for details.
I'm in touch with HappyEarthHomes. They are good people. The land I purchase is a stone's throw from them. =]
See my update on the place in the other thread in this section.
I bought in Missouri. Land in TN must have GOLD on it as most sellers want $6k to $10 for it. There is no "cheap" land in TN unless it is in a flood zone or swampy area. =/
Update:
Paperwork in final and it's all legal and done.
Still looking at mid-May as a starting point. Waiting for the weather to break and warm up. Here it is 1st week of Spring and it is snowing in southeast TN. =/
I have 2 wood burning stoves and other supplies gathered. The stoves are...
Hello all. Sorry for the delay in replying.
Plans have changed as far as my time frame.
I still am waiting on some paperwork to make this final.
Also I got a gig that will put some nice coin in my pocket.
This will keep me in TN until min-May/ 1st of June.
I am itching to get out there but...
I just aquired 10 acres to start this project.
It is in Southern Missouri.
Yes it is the mid-west but land is cheap and the growing season is great.
If anyone wants to stop by and help/crash for abit or such drop me a PM or text.

Travel is cool as shit and all. But once you have kids you need to put down some roots for a spell and raise'em. Let the go to school and make friends and have a stable home. Hell weekends and summer do all the running around you want, just come back to homebase.
Not saying don't live life...
Who lives in Canada and doesn't have a proprer coat??
They would have to pull my ass out of that apartment with it being mid-winter in Canada.
Ride it out as long as possible. You don't want to be on the street on a sub-zero night.
I just drove the I-40 from TN to Las Vegas and back in Dec. It was cold as hell then. Hit a snowstorm outside of ABQ, NM on the way back. Slow going for abit. But yea, I-40 stright into OK is your best shot. Lots of Pilots, Flying Js, Loves truckstops along that route. Good luck.
It sucks balls to be treated like that. Been there. But like Cantcure said, you got to walk away without a beat down or thrown in jail. So chalk it up to being profiled as many of us have been at one time or another. Karma will get the bad cops one day. =]
The Plan:
Looking for 5 more individuals who are interested in forming a
commune / farm / off the grid world on 5 to 10 acres.
With a total of 6 people (counting myself) working for 6-8 months
by August/Fall 2013 try and raise $5,000 each.
With said $30,000 we enter into an argeement of...
Ask the Japanese how "safe" they think it is.
I hate the damn ideal of nuclear (plants and missils). It's a power humans have no right to try and control. A handful of humans (Prez, USSR, China, etc) get pised off and could detroy the entire planet with a push of a button.
The nuclear plants...
I'm still very interested in this idea. a group pf people working the land, building, etc is much easier than going solo on a project. God knows I have tried.
Going west to work and put some money todather. hope to buy some land in the mid-west/east area for a possible commune of sorts...
I too have used the above Ozark Trail tent for about 8 summer seasons now. Shows no signs of damage of need of repair. But I take care to dry it out and put it away properly. Use a tarp with the tent also. I use one as a "shade porch" and then as a extra tent cover in heavy rains. Works well...
Don't get hung up on caliber size either. A .22lr will kill as deadly as a .50 cal. It's bullet on target every time that counts. You find the handgun you feel the most comfortable with and you get good with the target practice. Hours on range. Then you can make a shot in the "T"zone of the...
Places like McDonalds don't do background checks. Flip burgers and sling fries for some cash. Find a place to setup a tent and do bathroom washes til you can do better. There is always a way if you just look for it.
I've had some bad spills off a bike before. Scrapped elbows, knees, and a bad shoulder asphalt burn,...even racked the boys once or twice but never Mr Happy. =)
Makes me cringe just thinking about that.
Hope the healing goes well. Maybe go to the doc for some pain meds to help pass the...
I don't know of any, but as many plant closings that has heppened in the last 2-3 years and people moving out of the area, there should be plenty of places to crash in OH and MI.
I went on a all day hike and that evening soaked in a tub with a beer in hand. The perfect ending to a perfect day. :drinking:
I like to get clean and it does help to hitch, but not everyday. I'm growing my hair out longer now (winter) and it feels and does better when wearing it naturally...
Bummer Ashley.
I took off at 16 (stole mom's car), got busted and dragged back.
I took off at 17 (my car), blew engine in IL, picked up by cops and dragged back.
Hit 18 9 months later and never went back.
I use these Mini-Maglites. They are small yet pretty powerful. I keep one in my utility bag on my belt. I recommend buying a bright colored one (red, blue, etc) so if you drop it in, it will be easier to find.
That is a very cool thing to do. Making a waystation in Harve. You never know when a frozen rail rider might need a warm cup o soup and a warm spot for the night with winter coming on. I have yet to ride the rails, but next summer I want to try and see some of the north by rail. =)
