Hey, thanks for the reply! Sounds like you are setup just fine for dinking around the bahamas/caribbean, specially with the shallow draft your centerboard allows. yes, i also hate when travelers are led down to the cockpit.....i just feel like they are in the way there, as opposed to cabin...
What model boat is it? Sabre 30?? What problems/flaws have you run into? If you could change anything about the boats performance or design, what would you change? How much fuel/water tankage do you have aboard? If you're mostly on the hook, what are you doing for power needs/charging of...
I may try and go. And besides, I've been wanting to go hunt for some Ellensburg blue agate for awhile.
People should check for road closures due to wildfires, wherever they are coming from. I was just in eastern Washington/Idaho/Montana this past week and there are a lot of fires again. The...
Didn't you read his whole post? He's literally saying the same thing as you....that there's a lot more to learn to get GOOD at sailing and be able to safely make an ocean passage.
The dream is to start sailing around the world. I've been getting experience out on the water in my smaller sailboat these past few years.
In a few days, I start a 2 year long marine maintenance tech program at a college in this region that covers everything from repairing diesel/outboard...
Ah....soil. I keep some decent sized garden plots so I have a little experience with this. I started out with sandy, barren, crap soil like this where I live: and have been working on it over the past few years to make beautiful loamy earth worm-filled stuff like this:
I started out doing...
Right? And I'm looking at the salmon la sac road and forest service roads that branch off and they keep going up the forest towards cooper lake or beyond. Gotta be able to find somewhere along there to camp.
Bring your inner tubes/water air mattresses boys and girls!
@jimi @Matt Derrick dude, what about salmon la sac road area? It's above cle elum lake, has a dope looking swimming hole With a cliff to jump off, and lots of free spots to camp along the river or so I'm reading.
Theres the Olympic peninsula but they are really strict about having a discover pass ($30 per vehicle). The summer gets busy so many spots may fill up quickly.
Then there's the area around Gold Bar/Index on highway 2. Very scenic.
There's places out by where I live in Darrington, but that's...
Here's the deal....the DNR and WDFW have closed several areas to camping on the eastern side of the state due to wildfires. Also, the governor has issued an emergency statewide ban on all recreational fires until the drought passes...
where will i be summoned to? can i request the hearing to take place in the southeast around december??? i was planning to drive cross country then, but fuck it....if i can get a free plane ticket then count me in, man!
Ran the generator today to make sure it runs and provides power. Thing purrrs like a sleepy kitten. I think a 50ft extension cord and we'll be plenty fine. Its not very loud at all.
I think at least one of the fire pits up on the bluff has a grill attachment on it. I will try and bring a 2 burner propane stove, maybe if someone could bring another so we have plenty burners to make food on?
As far as wood, there's some driftwood on the beach....but this later in the season...
save your money matt....or take the $150 and throw it all on red, on roulette. if you win, we can split the profits. :D
i'm gonna order this one tomorrow: Amazon.com : WEN 56203i Super Quiet 2000-Watt Portable Inverter Generator w/Fuel Shut Off, CARB Compliant, Ultra Lightweight : Garden &...
Theres a separate area down on the beach from where the main
There's a separate area down on the beach from where the main camp will be where there's 4 picnic tables and fire pits. The main camp will be up on a bluff that's close but far enough away you won't have to watch people drinking
I've done it before, but you'll be waiting a looooooooong time for that bus/van/pickup truck that has enough room for you all and your gear. What we usually did was split up in groups of 2 and try and race each other to the next destination
Wow. That is quite the read. I've only met him while up in Alaska and never really hung out with him but there were a couple things that happened that summer that kind of rubbed me the wrong way. He has a profile on here but I don't think he visits STP much these days.
I hope he can...
It's great that you want to help people. That's admirable. I guess I've just become more of a misanthrope as I've gotten older. It's not that I hate people necessarily, it's just that I've learned I enjoy my own company (and dogs....dogs are fucking awesome) more often than being around...
Kind of a lazy thread post IMO. No offense to you or anything....but don't you think it would be better to make a post where you list some of the best places to work/camp/hop instead of just saying "hit me up if you want to know"?
What would this forum look like if everyone just came on here...
I'll be driving a car from Georgia back to the PacNW hopefully within the next couple months. Scattering my dad's ashes up in Alaska in July. Working my farm gig for June/July to make some money. Jambo in August. I plan to otherwise stay in Washington and get as much time in sailing on the...
I have used hot water or often times a mixture of water and isopropyl alcohol in a spray bottle and spray it into and around the edge of my door, key hole, and i spray a frozen windshield with it too if I'm in a hurry to get it to defrost
So....I have an ION Pathfinder 4 bluetooth speaker someone got me for my birthday that I will plan to bring. The battery life on it is good for days. It also has a wireless phone charger thingy on it.
And if we get the next round of stimulus checks, I may just spring for a good portable power...
I can't believe I actually spent 5 minutes of my life reading OP's full rant. I guess it's akin to watching some stupid awful youtube video...... like of someone peeling their sunburnt skin off in one big piece, or someone shoving something ridiculous up their ass or something. You already...
We have 4 major rivers in this area (good for floating or white water rafting) and more creeks than you can count with tons of little hidden out of the way swimming holes to enjoy.
Yeah...the river slough across the road from my place. Ha! :
But seriously...there are tons of beautiful, special places out in my neck of the woods for swimming holes. Not going to blast their exact location on the internet though.
Here's one such place at the end of a common trail you...
damn matt...sorry that happened to you. ya try and help someone and then their true nature comes out and they try and paint you as the bad guy. people are whack.
I haven't hitchhiked or ridden trains in several years but when I did, I was able to stay out of trouble using my wits and intuition mostly. There were only a couple times (when not throwing fists) where I can remember having to use pepper spray on someone or brandishing a knife for...
Haven't been to either of those places yet. Just wanted to say welcome! I'm big into surfing as well. One place I can think of (off the top of my head) in socal area that i really enjoyed was Sykes Hot springs in Big Sur. If you like to hike. It's a brutal 10 mile hike to get to the...
I take RV trips with my uncle in his 26' RV occasionally. He almost never pays to camp somewhere. We usually just drive up a dirt logging road somewhere and find a little pullout with a nice view to park for the night. We never have a problem except around the Olympic Peninsula....the logging...
