Long trips were murder lol... I would always ride for 4 or 5 hours and then stop for an hour to stretch and walk. I definitely recommend breaks like that so the stress on your body doesn't compound. There were even times when I would sit cross legged once I was on the highway as long as traffic...

I use a trailer with my bike. I recommend it since you have quite a bit of gear to take. Keep ground clearance in mind when picking one out.
