Just so you know, you need to apply yesterday to get this job. You might still get lucky but you need to apply now. Most people have this job lined at least six months in advance. Starts in early October btw.
Saying that your are staying in town and don't need an RV site, will probably...
Rubber tramping is great for me largely BECAUSE I'm introverted. I also enjoy solving problems, such as broken bus on the side of an highway in the middle of nowhere. Etc.
It just might not be for you. It maybe just not right now. Just know, it's going to get worse before it gets better if...
Toyota dolphin is a cool truck. Legendary engine but remember they're getting pretty old by now. They get great mpgs because of the 4 cyl engine compared to the v8 every other RV has but they struggle up hills even without adding a motorcycle and huge battery bank. You might consider a...
Like I said, some are free. Most aren't. Same goes for army Corp of engineers. I've stayed in a good few completely free COE sites. The discussion here is a quick breakdown of how it usually is. If you aren't doing your own research as you go, your are going to be missing out on lots of...
I would go so far as to say that almost no fast food employees give a fuck about anything, but it's not up to them. Hell, that's why they give so few fucks. After they close, that random single van parked in the lot might look suspicious to law enforcement.
On the other hand, I'm not a...
Apples and oranges.
National parks usually cost over $20 just to go in for a day. Only some are free. Those are typically ones with major roadways running through them, like great Smokey mountains or redwoods. Even in the free access parks, you will be paying for camping with very few...
I haven't done it, but I hear the popular with around for that is too use a pre paid Visa card. That way if you decide to stop using them you can stop putting money on the card and they can't do shit about it.
When I shop for vehicles I usually search a wide range. Usually any Craigslist within a days drive from where I'm living. About 250 to 500 miles. That will really open up your options. I personally don't know anything buying a vehicle at the slabs tho. Remember you will need to register in...
I've been living out of my cooler for a year now. No problems. Ice can get kind of pricey but I've started just paying for bag and grabbing 2 or 3. That helps. Also I keep my food in a plastic tub to keep it dry and out of the ice.
For me, I've packs would be wasted space since I wouldn't...
How about you start a new thread so we can actually dig into this considering your needs. It sounds like you are between a lot of very different options. Generally speaking though, those tiny homes, even on trailers, aren't designed for regular travel. Actually the main reason they usually...
Guys I'm telling you. We can all sit here and speak from experience, but the main thing is IT DEPENDS ON YOUR STATE. You're going to have to do your own research regarding requirements for insurance and registration. The only thing that is universal is that you don't need a CDL.
Go ask...
That's exactly what I use and have used for about a year now. I referred to it in the post before yours actually. Works fine for me. Plus it's about $400 less than the chemical toilet setups
CDL stands for Commercial Drivers License. Unless you are using a vehicle for commerical purposes, you usually don't need a CDL. I think the exception might be actual semi- trucks and then only in certain states.
What it takes to register your bus/box truck/van as an RV will depend entirely on...
While I have experienced those temperatures first hand, I haven't had to sisin I began living in vehicles. I personally travel with the seasons when I can and do seasonal work for income.
It sounds like you have your reasons for staying where you and doing what you're doing. I hope the best...
Honestly for you, I would recommend a full size van with a travel trailer. Plenty of room to hang out. Easy to get around town. Can carry extra people. Both trailers and vans can be had for pretty cheap.
I personally have a 26 ft. Bus. It's awesome but I've ended towing a car behind it...
As a frequent user of spray paint, I want to add that if you decide to paint your car yourself it will probably look like crap and be more expensive than you think. I wouldn't use any hardware store paint other than Rust-Oleum. It's about $4 a can.
If your want to avoid being a cop magnet...
Just a quick side note. I live in fiberglass shuttle bus (7.3 actually) and I want to note that these things get the rot bad. Mines an 02 and I had to replace the entire floor and ceiling for to water damage. I've patched the roof so much but it still leaks. It's a great amount io space and...
@Dunedrifter
Get your off-topic ass out of here. You wanna help the planet? Kill yourself. That's about the most any one person can do for the planet. The enemy of environmentalism is not a handful of poor people who live in vehicles. It's corporations, lobbyists, and capitalism. Have you...
On another note, you can have mail sent to your local post office (or one near where you are going to be soon) as general delivery. A quick Google search will tell you everything you need know.
You'll definitely want a manual, but like dontaskme said, you won't find one for the RV just van...
First of all that is very nice looking bus and I understand why you want to keep it. If I was you I would call some area diesel and big trucks repair shops and get it checked over. It'll cost 50 to 100 bucks if you shop around. They can give you an estimate for repairs costs. Also check what...
So, since your already live in a van, I'll assume you already know RVs are less stealthy. Sounds like you're looking at the Toyota based rigs. I've thought about those a bit too. They're pretty popular these days so they tend to come with a higher price tag even though they're pretty old. Most...
Just wanted to jump in and say my bus (26ft.) Gets about 10mph on a7.3 Ford diesel. I've heard of people getting better mileage but not mine. Also I have a 55 gallon tank. That would take all day to filled by jugging.
For our bus we've ended up getting one of those shower tents they sell at wall Mart. If we're gonna be somewhere for a little bit, we set it up and we use a 5 gallon bucket with one of those toilet seats they make, bathroom trash bags, and kitty litter. Make a deposit, drop a little kitty...
Allot of this had already been said but it bears repeating. If you go with a van, you're mostly not going to be train hopping. It's just not practical to leave your van and your possessions in a random parking lot and leave for an indefinite amount without expecting it to get impounded. Maybe...
If you think pissing in a bottle is gross or pointless, you're on the wrong thread. There are many situations where it makes perfect sense.
I prefer"simply" juice bottles. Hold 3 or 4 pisses, fairly large mouth, clear so your know what's in it.
Do y'all really put your dick INSIDE the...
What I'm saying is that you don't need a pass to use national Forest or blm lands. They are free public lands. Almost all of them allow dispersed camping and it is100% free. No pass needed.
To be clear, the America the beautiful pass will only save you on admission to National parks. I did it a few years ago. It was 80 bucks so if you plan on going to multiple National parks it starts paying for itself after about 3 admission- fee-charging national parks ( they don't all charge eg...
TN is about 60 bucks to register. No emissions check and your can register anything you want for non-commercial use. You can also consider driving without insurance. I bought (rv) insurance for my bus but other than that I haven't insured a car in my life. Drive the speed limit and pay attention...
I tend to agree about the inaccessibility if the plastic clamshell premade ones. Hah one on my van and found it to be a big Hassel to get things out of. If you can make your own it seems like a good idea to me. Don't get me wrong it was better than nothing but I think it's wierd to have to open...
Congrats on your bus! We have a e450 bus and we love it. Been in it 6 months now. Do you have the diesel too? Feel free to dm me if you have any questions,I might be able to help out. Good luck!
@Dunedrifter I think we've all heard of bikes dude. And I believe there's a sub forum for that. Most of us rubber tramps (at least on stp) started traveling by riding trains, hitchhiking, or biking/walking. The decision to get an automobile was one most of us, certainly me, considered heavily...
So what kind of places are you using for parking? I'm thinking about taking my bus down to Florida for the winter but I've been under the impression that it's hard to free camp there.
I've never bothered much with stealth, but I think letting your vehicle look scuzzy is asking for another kind of negative attention. Police attention.
There's a balance. I've got my paperwork in order and I don't bother with parking where I'm not invited, but I still want to avoid police...
Me, my partner, and our hound dog stay in a 26 Ford e450 diesel shuttle bus I converted. Gets about 6 to 10mpg for now but I'm planning some mods. That's not great but there trick is to stay put more often. We saved up a few thousand dollars working shitty restaurant jobs and selling off our...
Did they break a window? I don't know what your budget is or even how much they cost but a car alarm would probably do the trick.
It sounds like the minimum effort for your situation it's too take your valuable with yo to your friend's house and put a club in the steering wheel.
I have a car...
This is my 97 Ford Aerostar named the Dethstar. Spent roughtly a year living and traveling in her with my GF. It's pretty small for two people but it gets 23 mpg. These pix aren't great, but the back is just a raised bed with storage space underneath.
Everybody on this forum rips on the Aerostar, but mine has almost 230k on it never gives me ANY trouble other than basic maintenance. Also, it get 23 mpg.
Here's a dump of the links I use:
http://www.freecampsites.net/ - this is my main one. very useful. always try to find a real address or use the bit of directions that might be in the description. If you try to use the coordinates in google maps, you will get bullshit...
