Do you recommend traveling with or without a vehicle?

Personally, I hate car traveling of all forms. I just gas jugged like 9,000 miles and I was pretty depressed. I don’t really enjoy hitch hiking either, but it’s way better than rubber tramping. Bikes and long distance wilderness hiking and trains and kayaks are the most fun thing I have done so far

Average daily distance with loaded touring bike

My longest day ever with a full load was 186 miles, but I have averaged 100 miles a day on tour before. I typically ride 70 miles a day. if you are in shape or used to moving around or being physically active all day riding 70ish miles a day plus taking detours to do other shit is pretty easy...

Featured The StP guide to Bike Touring

A few points here: The majority of bicycle travelers I know ride mountain bikes from the 1980's to 1990's. The reason of this being is they are cheap, durable, and they have a steel frame. You can typically find these on Craigslist for 100 bucks or less. I am speaking of "vintage mountain...

I dated a girl and lived at her house and squatted at a punk house, but I could live outside comfortably in Oregon in the winter. Gain more skills and you too can do it. I am a communist that lives in capitalism and I respect the land as much as I know how and I believe I should be allowed to live for free.

  31. THE REAL SCAVENGER

They will not share what they got

Yes blue collar or self made people exist, that is right although they are more of a 2. Hugely generalizing here to simplify
  32. THE REAL SCAVENGER

They will not share what they got

I am writing this in response to several experiences I have just recently had. I also come with a question. Is there possible to stay at people's houses that have never been homeless and not make them feel uncomfortable in any kind of way???? When I typically get housed up, it is by old...

  34. THE REAL SCAVENGER

Rights we should have. How I practice lifestyle anarchism

We should be allowed to sleep under all shelters that are not where people sleep inside of unless we have gotten their permission. (Store fronts, pavilions, play grounds, etc) We should be allowed to live under all bridges as long as we mostly respect the land and all people who will walk past...

You don't need shit, a change in mentality

The one thing I feel like I am entitled to is eye contact and the acknowledgement that I am a human, be kind kinda helps I think. I've had a lot of people treat me like I don't exist when I ask for directions which can get old.
  39. THE REAL SCAVENGER

You don't need shit, a change in mentality

Whatever, I don't rely on people, before I had signs, less people talked to me, I almost got hit by cars more, and I feel like people were more apt to steal from me. I kinda wish people would give me less. I left Nashville with like 16 toothbrushes, a ridiculous amount of food and 7 jackets...
  40. THE REAL SCAVENGER

You don't need shit, a change in mentality

This isn't to say I look down upon people who fly signs or whatever, if that's you're thing, cool, just get it out your head that you need what you are asking for, there are other ways to find it. Most of my friends that fly signs for a living, it really don't matter, all I'm saying is just, you...

I once went 9 months and spent somewhere around $50, I spent money on shit I didn't need. I've had zero dollars six times on this bicycle tour that I'm currently on (I'm approaching 6,000 miles) I've never felt like I needed anything. I've also almost died a few times in my life. Had a few...

Bicycle touring as a spiritual practice

I’ve currently got a 30 and a 50 that I use both at the same tine when it gets cold. Favorite piece of gear probably would include earmuffs that I groundscored, a buff that I also groundscored, some knee high hunting boots a man gave to me, and I also am a huge fan of gloves
