I think it would be pretty far for @Jerrell to make it to Snively and also it would prob be in the 90s everyday without very much shade, so I'm thinking the forest of Southern Oregon would be more comfortable and a lot closer for Jerrell and others on the coast to make it

Yeah what you carry also definitely depends on climate, I tend to travel in colder, wetter parts of the year where getting soaked could leave me pretty fucked. I also use my bivy kind of as a "waterproof phone case" for my sleeping setup...I keep my warm af comfy af sleeping bag and pad inside...

Bivvies rockkkkk, carry both for the ultimate setup! Laying in a body bag (bivy) in a downpour sucks, laying under a tarp and getting your sleeping gear wet from the water spray sucks. So do both! My military goretex bivy is awesome and really heavy duty and holds up to trains and rough terrain...

I definitely found certain hostels & guesthouses in SE Asia to have more of a chatty, friendly, info-sharing, storytelling vibe. And getting off the most beaten paths helps, too. A lot of my small village riverfront guesthouses in Laos had spotty wifi at best and the power in the whole town...

Also.....you can totally go to Central/South America with $2,000! Just did a search and found backpacker blogs that said you'd spend an average of $25 to $40 per day to live comfortably with food/transport/hostel bed, depending on which countries you go to.
