    Best places in the midwest

Minneapolis is great, I'm from Duluth, MN and it's pretty easy to get along there just a bit out of the way for other cities and cold as balls this time of year. Milwaukee is very cool as well, the Cream City Collective in River west is a cool place to meet and connect. But a lot of the smaller...

    Craigslist Rideshare?

I haven't posted looking for a ride, but have used it many times to get somewhere that is posted which is (I feel) more reliable. Haven't had a problem, met a lot of cool people. Can be hit or miss though...

    Photos The Migrant Sailor

About a year ago I hitched into Bellingham, WA on the same day two tall ships docked and opened for tours. After a wide-eyed, tongue-tied walk around the deck, I asked how one becomes a crew member. "Just volunteer!" I signed up for a two week volunteer program which lasted 7 months, sailing...

    road"dog"?

My buddy's pooch Zeus would tear apart trees at the command "kill crackheads!" We all got a good kick out of it until one morning we noticed he was trying to shit out about 2 feet of tree bark...it didn't work. I had latex gloves in my pack and gave him a hand the whole time thinking he was...

    Looking for "Salty"

A friend of mine has been trying to catch up with a guy he housed up a while back in MPLS. His name is Shawn but went by "Salty Dog" or "Salty'. He has "this guy!" tattooed on his knucks and an inverted cross on his face. My buddy hasn't heard from him in a long time and was just curious if he's...

    sucking dicks for money?

Yeah dude, in certain situations I would for sure... but really just be careful. A little booze money isn't worth what some people "have" to offer.

    Finding a place to sleep...

And make sure not being seen means at night AND in the morning. It's not nice going to sleep behind a dumpster and finding out it's where the employees of that building take their smoke break!

    DIY dreadlocks

Dunk your head in salt water then when it's almost dry rub in some fine campfire ash, it's good for fine, straight hair that doesn't "frizz" easily.

What's your favorite piece of gear?

Probably my hammock, it's big and waterproof. I've been using it as a tent for the last week in rainy Portland lol. That and a harmonica.

    Learning Primitive/Survival Skills

Where in MN did you settle? I grew up in the woods near Duluth, Minnesota is definitely a great place to live off the land. City slickers don't know shit about the pure awesome of fresh venison. As for books to check out, I had a U.S Army field survival manual (FM 21-76) that I got when I was...

    I-5 North from seattle

Yeah, I had my passport and a debit card and they didn't take. My advice to better your odds are to save up and take a bus or something over the border so you look like you have a planned trip.

Thanks for all the tips guys, I ended up hitching out of Seattle with a late start and made it Bellingham, stayed overnight, then bussed it up to Blaine where I got rejected entry and then hitched back down to B-ham.
