Hitching is the best option. Just have confidence and you'll get where you need to be. Don't be afraid to sleep outside and be prepped for that. Try using Couchsurfing.com in cities where hosts are available.

Yo I'm literally in Seward right now. I climbed to the bowl of Marathon yesterday (gone up the Race Trail three times now) and was in Homer last weekend.
Its a whole lot greener now.
