    Asside from cannibalism what....

'In the very depth of his being, not merely in word but in deed, he has broken every connection with the social order and with the whole educated world, with all the laws, appearances and generally accepted conventions and moralities of that world which he considers his ruthless foe. Should he...

    getting clean(ish) without a shower

Water in short supply? Isopropyl alcohol on a wad of cloth or TP. Dab where the sun doesn't shine and other funky areas.* Now you're knockin out some of that aromatic bacteria. *probably not in that order though

    gotta be the shoes

You get what you pay for. I own a pair of 7 dollar canvas shoes from walmart. Their weaknesses show after no time, then you bust out your super glue and try to get that insole back from whence it came. Look for comfortable athletic/casual shoes that have THICK SOLES. PUMA ROMAs should be...

Seeking Extremophiles for Desert Summer Crew

Yeah, dude. What's your deal? Permanent Slab City resident (for the most part)? Only the strong survive. But, like you said: ACCLIMATION is the word. I feel like WATER is the be-all / end-all to colonization. I've seen 26 gallon portable cisterns. Military surplus, for sale, online They...

    Something You Forgot to Bring

I wasn't biking, but i went to a lil music festival, and i forgot a mess kit / metal pot (to boil water for coffee). Just cut the top off an aluminum pint can, and that was enough to make it happen. (My campstove is very small.) I usually regret it if i forget bug spray. That is a must...

Getting a cheap car and seeing how far it will take you?

People totally do that... Even itinerant workers and what's left of travelling-salesmen of sorts have been known to purchase junkers for a few hundred stones, drive them where they need to go, and then abandon them. I imagine that the more skill one has as a mechanic, the more success one might...

    Best and Worst Jobs Stories

Gross. Ancient gnostics would say that there is no sin, only ignorance. Stoics would say that it isn't THE EVENT, but how we JUDGE the event. I say Fuck Em. Maybe one day they go to pull their guns, and some alert traveler already has his trained on them. Life is so random. Death as well.

Show ya pouches and fanny packs :)

The militaristic nature of the United States provides its civilian market with plentiful surplus goods and equipment. These pouches come in various sizes, will resist SOME rainfall, and can easily be attached to backpacks, bicycles, and hipbelts.

How to get stronger to carry bag?

Unfortunately, the only way to get used to a heavy pack is to... just get used to it. People that train for long distance thru-hikes (like the Appalachian Trail) might load their packs with books, or water containers, to get used to carrying 50-60 lbs. of weight on the back. Never...

Rather live in a tent than bust my ass to pay the rent

No way. You're not crazy, man. Countless times I've considered ditching my deadend job and hitting the road. Never does the wanderlust leave you. Get it while you can. Often considered how much money i could save if i stopped giving half of it to a landlord, and instead just started camping...

If you had to live on a bike the rest of your life?

Surly tires are heavy. 1000 monetary units will get you a good bicycle (+ a spair intertube, and a portable pump). Try smaller shops, bike coops, or fuckin Craigslist; never know when you'll find a 'diamond in the rough'. I've only had Treks. They're awesome, and can take a beating. I think my...

    Anarchy is actually far right

---> Anarchism, in the philosophical sense, could be seen as drifting into the spectrum of right-wing politics at times. It appears this way because Anarchism promotes (and in many ways, demands) independence and self-reliance. Often Anarchist theory resembles Nietzsche-esque principles...

new here and new to the traveling life

Cool. You should go for it. Require new people you meet to earn your trust. Be wary of men. You should seek female companions... yes. And rove the uncharted shroud like the Amazon tribes of yore! Go 4th! Huzzah!

    Sunburn

Yea. That's right. Sunburn sucks. I got pretty roasted a few weeks back. Once you're cooked, the best remedy is those aloe gels, found everywhere. I proclaim that the best will have LIDOCAINE included in the ingredients (- and ALOE VERA, I would hope).

    Adventure calls for me

That's awesome. I always wanted to hike the Appalachian Trail. I think you're near the southern trailhead. It's akin to an odyssey. ...now that I think about it, this is about the time people start trekking north (for a complete thru-hike), to be on the trail for 4 or 5 months. Wow.

    Adventure calls for me

Bicycles are cheap. I find decent posts on Craigslist sometimes. You could spend less than 200 stones (not including panniers/saddlebags), and come away with a decent middle-o-the-road bike. Other resources include pawn stores, or thrift stores and flea markets. Bicycles are more easily...

    Tent or tarp?

I develop illogical anger towards bloodsucking mosquitoes at times. If I had a steadier hand and a jeweler's loupe, I'd fashion miniature crucifixes and post the lil bodies of the bugs I've killed around my tent. And let that be a lesson to the other would-be parasites! .....yea, I use a tent...
