I’m a 19 year old becoming extremely restless in my hometown. Haven’t done much traveling so far but I desperately want to do more of it. I find my greatest peace outdoors. I struggle with my mental health quite a bit, but I’ve found soundness in walking, looking at things, sitting alone with myself. Things that I think come natural and necessary with a frugal life on the road. I’ve grown up in a well off household with plenty of social and economic safety nets surrounding me. I am greatly appreciative of these but, in a way, feeling undeserving of these benefits. They feel unjust in such periods of blatant inequity and hostility towards the houseless and downtrodden. I’m not sure if I’m being crazy but this issue haunts most of my days. I don’t feel I can live a life inside the norm if this gross misuse of the land and it’s people is within the bounds of normalcy in this country. With that being said I’ve come to this site for knowledge on other’s experiences with solo travel that could be perhaps categorized as unorthodox or more fringed than other means. I know I’ve barely any experience or wisdom in these areas and will always have something to learn. I looking to learn as much as there can be learnt through conversation and research on the internet. I want to learn the book smarts needed to hopping trains, sleeping outdoors in places you may not be welcome, things of that sort. I want to feel as prepared as possible (likely a Sisyphean task) before actually crossing over the line and fully deciding on this lifestyle.
