In 2009, I dropped out of college and rode my bicycle from Southeast Oklahoma to Nashville, TN and back. I took my time and couchsurfed along the way. I was gone for the entire spring and summer that year.

Two years later, I Left home again. This time I decided to hitchhike to the West. I survived by busking and the occasional odd job. I saw a lot more of the country this time around. I found I enjoyed walking and hitchhiking much more than bicycling. Again, I was gone for the entire Spring/Summer of that year.

Since then I've been pursuing a music career in Nashville, TN. But, I'm thinking about giving up this endeavor to answer the call of the road again. Only this time, with the intention of being gone indefinitely.

I'm thinking about building a man-hauled hand cart similar to the WWII M3A4's that the Army infantry used to tote their gear with on foot during their Eupoean Tour.

I prefer traveling by foot and hitchhiking vs bicycling. BUT, I have to always have my guitar and I dont really enjoy toting a heavy pack and carrying my guitar's gig bag with me all the time. It really cuts down into the joy of travel for me. Yet, seeing as how im thinking about being gone for years this time around, I'll need a substantial amount of gear for wilderness survival/basic comforts. That's where the man-hauled hand cart comes in.

I haven't thought it all the way through yet, but Im thinking the lifestyle may look something like this:

-Squat on a nice piece of land just west of Manitou Springs CO, or Fort Collins CO from late May to late September (Someplace isolated enough to Squat without too much issue, yet close enough to one of these towns to make grocery runs and busk for money)

Then,

-Do the same exact thing only In Southern California from Late September to Late May.

-Occasionally I'll leave my "home base" behind (hide/bury my bulkier gear) and go on extended back packing adventures further south into mexico on down into South America

and,

-Eventually I'd like to learn to sail so that one day I can hitch a ride on someone's boat who's planning on sailing from North America to Europe and I'll spend some time back packing over there as well.
