I had a dream about catching out last night. Was traveling with a couple of guys, and an awesome girl named Cat. We parted ways after resting at a brewery, and I told her 'See you on down the road' (A line my brain pulled from 'Nomadland' which I watched a week or so ago), stumbling over the last bit. Cat smiled kindly and repeated the words with the same awkward hiccup, then set off to crash at a friend's place.
I can still feel the warmth of the sun on my face and the crunch of the dry weeds under me as we wandered the outskirts of town. I can feel my pack, see the gleam of the silver harmonica thrust in my face eagerly that day. I can still make out the tiny freckles peppering Cat's face.
Here's to all of the Cats out there right now- crashing on couches, living out of a pack you carry by the strength of your own will, healing hearts with the currency of a simple smile. And maybe, Cat, you're real- and we were having that dream together.
In any case, see you on down the road.
