Don't wait for others, just go and you'll meet people along the way, work exchanges in larger communities are a great way to meet people who are also traveling, HMU if you make it to London tho

Although tbh in terms of there being squats and stuff you're better off staying in mainland Europe. I can recommend the squats in the Basque country, although maybe you want to go further afield. It's also quite later in the year though, so maybe wait til the weather starts to improve before setting off.
