I guess this is kind of following up to the "what's in the huge packs?" post. I've found it quite interesting over the years of travelling/meeting up with people at what people pack. I'm kind of curious as to what people pack. I bring very few things, and my pack is around 20 lbs, but some think I even bring too much.

Med. Alice Pack Holds-
-Down Bedroll
-6 pairs socks (i love em), and 3 pairs briefs
-Thermal pants, flannel, and long sleeve t-shirt
-an extra t shirt
-tarp
-plastic garbage bag (works great inside bedroll to keep warm)
-2 military issue cantenes (outside of pack)
-work gloves
-Extra plugs/jewelry (cuz i'm lame)
-toothbrush/paste
-a railroad spike (taken alot of shit cuz i always have one and it's heavy)
-journal, bible, and usually a book
-playing cards, and dice
-camera, and music

That's about it, lemme know what ya'll carry!

did you go to illinois recently with your girlfriend for christmas? i think i might have met you on the train? the only reason i say is because of the bible stuff, i never met a traveler who carried around a bible with them? are you from portland, if not cool, but yeah im just curious!

i actually said there's reasons i don't hop trains period. never have. may have to coming up here pretty soon and i feel nervous about it. was wondering if that was some piece of gear essential to the proceedings. seems like it's not.

i have a great army pack.
strap my blankets on the outside of it.
i end up taking kind of personal things:
a few small religious statues
can opener
bottle opener
a few shirts
underwear
socks
a small poetry book
bandanas
toothbrush, toothpaste, crap like that [i'll hold true to the belief that teeth are important]
something everyone should have:
a planner [for phone numbers/addresses, remembering things, directions, photos, etc]

it's heavy at times, but i cant really part with any of it.
