Just added a few new links to the travel gear area of our resources section on getting ID/documents and getting mail while traveling :)
There are two traveler schools of thought: grab the pack and go, and extensive preparatory research....You can guess which one I'm buried in, at the moment....

@Rhubarb Dwyer I'll give you a hint: my YouTube feed is full of classics like, "Top 20 Phrases You Need to Know in Spanish"...
Today in Bum Feed News...
- groundscored an unsmoked cigarette
- they gave out kombucha?!?!
- no one burst into song while we were eating

"Feed, glorious feed!
Homebums and travelers
And since we're in need
Plastic spoons to stir
Potatoes, pudding, and peas
La comida mucha
To wash it down, if you please:
Kombucha!"

(There's your song, you filthy animal.)
So I had a bunch of free Metrolink tickets, so yesterday first I took Coaster from San Diego to Oceanside, then used them to go all the way from Oceanside to Simi Valley (covering 150 miles in a day). I decided to stay with my SO again a couple of days as I came down pretty sick with cold and also need to buy some gear for the record breaking cold in CA. Soon enough I’ll head to Ventura and hitch from there!
Just over a month and a half until I plan to hit the road here in New Zealand. Figuring out what I need to store and what I need to sell. Anyone thats currently travelling got an Instagram? Looking to follow some fellow misfits in the mean time!

I'm on the road in Oz right now! @glitchycopies
Would be awesome to see your photos from NZ when ya hit the road!!! I'm hoping to make it there within the next year
torn and conflicted in so many i cant see up anymore. The road calls, but knee is fucked and man, that shit dont seem sustainable for long. school sounds cool but debt is terrifying, housed up but no where feels like home. Drunk and freaked out on the east coast.
Oh my god, I feel winded for sure. It’s been a wild 3 days, and rough too. But I’m keeping my head high. I stayed under a stairwell at SDSU the first night, at Balboa Park the second night and last night was at Fiesta Island. I can already feel myself beginning to spiritually build character and have to overcome the anxiety of doing this (considering how bad my OCD was a long time ago... I consider this a success!)

@AAAutin Nest is Ventura and then Santa Barbara! I actually ended up staying here at my girlfriend’s in Simi Valley, I came down with a pretty gnarly cold (now I know why my first 3 days were so miserable!) and after I get better and get a bit more cold-oriented gear I’m heading up.

Also...deep in research concerning the hypothetical situation: if one knows a sloop but is presented with a gaff rig....
I am now on the road!! I spent money on the luxury of a nice ticket to Old Town San Diego, from there I will visit my godmother in East County and then hitchhike up the coast to the East Bay to visit friends and family. It’ll be in time for my 19th birthday!
The feeling of finally doing this is fucking amazing!
OK, so, my pack is a military duffle bag that is somewhat old, and I'm not sure it will hold up to traveling across the entire continent; so I'm open to suggestions on the best (?) replacement to buy....Thoughts?

I like genuine military surplus backpacks like the A.L.I.C.E. packs. I have two, one large the other small. What's nice is you don't have to worry about freaking zippers breaking. Everything on a A.L.I.C.E. pack has buttons that snap on to. I had a duffle bag once with shoulder straps but was a pain in the @zz to haul around. I would prefer a military surplus pack.

Take a duffel bag to the gym down the street, but certainly not across the continent. You're probably gonna want your hands freed up, holding signs or thumbs out. A drink in your hand, etc. Aside from freeing up your hands it's also just really bad on the back to hold weight on one side. Get yourself a backpack. I agree with Johnny, an old military surplus bag isn't a horrible place to start.
