West Coast Busking Tips (1 Viewer)

Jan 29, 2016
I've begun my life as a traveler as of a little over a month ago with reggae music as my means of making money (guitarist/ song writer) My homie and I bought an rv, where I'll be most likely resided for the winter, where after I'll be hitting the road solo and on foot, as I foresee this being the ideal way for me. I wish for my only expense to be my food and to resupply my gear as needed, this old rv is draining me and my homie drier than we had anticipated. So much so we're gonna find us a workamping position and stay somewhere for the winter (well I'm still going back and forth whether I wanna do this or just hit the road solo now). Now that I've briefly explained my position here, let me get to the point. I've busked a few times this past month and have noticed some extreme differences in the results. For example, in Davenport I made 50$, but in Folsom only 7$! I was hoping to get some ideas where i can find some more musician friendly towns, like davenport, that's near a good train yard that gives me options, and ideally a "foresty" area near by where I can set up camp for a little while. I'm contemplating just doing this soon, and toughing out the winter (some opinions on this would be much heeded as well), as I know I'd be more confident and stronger both mentally and physically on the other side when spring comes. If I were to do that , all three of those things: friendly and generous people, train yard near by, and secluded forest area not far from town, would be very important, and I'm looking for any and all experiences on which towns, mainly in northern California / southern Oregon, fulfill those ideals and which definitely don't! Thank you so much in advance, I've been sorta lurking on here for several months and have learned tons and know you guys are helpful to those who have a reasonable understanding of what they're getting themselves into. I look forward to the feedback!

Thanks man! I've always wanted a slide, combining blues with reggae is one of my favorite things to do. I'll definitely look into getting one. And thanks for the list of towns, super helpful. One of these may just work for me :)

Monthly Goals

  1. Paying the Bills
    $15.00 of $50.00
The first $50 in donations go towards paying our monthly server fees and adding new features to the website. Once this goal is reached, we'll see about feeding Matt that burrito.
  2. Buy Matt a Beer
    $15.00 of $75.00
Now that we have the bills paid for this month, let's give Matt a hearty thank you by buying him a drink for all the hard work he's done for StP. Hopefully his will help keep him from going insane after a long day of squishing website bugs.
  3. Feed Matt a Burrito
    $15.00 of $100.00
Now that the bills are paid and Matt has a beer in his hand, how about showing him your love by rewarding all his hard work with a big fat burrito to put in his mouth. This will keep him alive while programming new features for the website.
  4. Finance the Shopping Cart
    $15.00 of $200.00
Now that the bills are paid and Matt is fed, perhaps it's time to start planning for those twilight years under the bridge... if only he had that golden shopping cart all the oogles are bragging about these days.
