A buddy and I cruised down from Eureka and camped first at Big Trees SP in Calaveras County, then Pfeiffer-Burns SP in Big Sur; then Morro Bay SP. All 3 of them have sweet campgrounds. If you want to stealth camp, it's easy at all 3; and you can still have access to the PCH or in Big Trees, the town of Arnold is only about 1.5 miles from the park. We stayed at each one for 1-3 weeks. Highly recommended.
