Hey everyone.
Last spring I got hired to teach English in Tokyo, but everything locked down before I took off, so I'm stuck in the US for the time being. I'm hoping to get to Japan by the end of the summer.
I just finished reading The Anarchist's Guide to Travel and it has me optimistic about future prospects. The biggest things holding me back from traveling more are that I'm kind of finicky about my lifestyle and I'm poor as hell. Apparently the latter isn't as big of a problem as I've been making it out to be, though. I'm not much of a thrill-seeker or an extrovert, so things like train-hopping and hitchhiking aren't especially appealing to me, but I'm interested in urban exploration. I love getting around on foot, seeing places that are rarely noticed. Oh, also I play bagpipes and I want to get into busking. If you're experienced in it, I'd welcome any advice.

i really think this is one of the better parts of any approach to travel because there is so much out there that'll surprise

as for busking with bagpipes i imagine that'd be a challenge compared to less boisterius instruments. they can be polarizing

If you feel like it I'd love to hear how hitching has gone for you. My concern is that people will expect me to tell them all about my life and I don't really have that much to tell.

I completely agree they are a polarizing instrument. I think I'll have to trial-and-error figure out what works with them and what doesn't.

Thanks for the welcome. Looking forward to talking more and getting some experience under my belt.

Total amount
$35.00
Goal
$100.00

Monthly Goals

  1. Paying the Bills
    $35.00 of $50.00
The first $50 in donations go towards paying our monthly server fees and adding new features to the website. Once this goal is reached, we'll see about feeding Matt that burrito.
  2. Buy Matt a Beer
    $35.00 of $75.00
Now that we have the bills paid for this month, let's give Matt a hearty thank you by buying him a drink for all the hard work he's done for StP. Hopefully this will help keep him from going insane after a long day of squishing website bugs.
  3. Feed Matt a Burrito
    $35.00 of $100.00
Now that the bills are paid and Matt has a beer in his hand, how about showing him your love by rewarding all his hard work with a big fat burrito to put in his mouth. This will keep him alive while programming new features for the website.
  4. Finance the Shopping Cart
    $35.00 of $200.00
Now that the bills are paid and Matt is fed, perhaps it's time to start planning for those twilight years under the bridge... if only he had that golden shopping cart all the oogles are bragging about these days.
