Town where I grew up.

According to my mother, if you go to the McDonalds in downtown Apopka on Main Street, and tell the cashiers that you're hungry and have no money, they'll give you a burger and drink.

That, just in from my mother. She goes up there everyday and says the owner has instructed all the cashiers to do that.

Safe travels!

Interesting, I live about 30 minutes away. Thanks for the tip.

No problem. I'm from Apopka, (lived there almost 25 years) though I've been gone for 21 years, and it's changed a lot.

Back in my day, the McDonalds wouldn't have given away free food no matter what. This owner now is a good guy from what my mother says.

My mom is still there and I just got back from visiting her, today.

Good luck!

I lived in Apopka for about a year when I was a kid. I got bit by a baby snapping turtle at the springs there. Fun times.
I would like to go back one day.
Snapping turtle still hasn't let go.

You wouldn't recognize it, Lockhart, Plymouth or any of the other surrounding areas.

Apopka isn't Apopka any more. :(

My mother still lives in the same house I grew up in, 46 years she's been there.

I won't ever go back. It's just not the same.

damn, sorry to hear that.

was there a lot of commercial/industrial development there?
Well, if I'm ever down in south florida again I may just pass through. Never really a reason for me to be down there though.

Apopka is trying really hard to be Orlando.

Forests have been destroyed to build housing developments, what used to be, the "country," has been developed, shopping centers, schools, etc.

It breaks my heart.

Yea I can understand that feeling. Reminds me of what's happened to the beaches around here. Lot's of new high rise condos, souvenir shit shops, and tourists that leave garbage all over the shore.
