I've banned the user @All Who Wander because they continually demonstrated no interest in participating in this community in a helpful way. Occasionally we get people that sign up for accounts and for whatever reason, have no interest in discussing topics that are relevant to this community and instead insist on pointless political debate designed to rile people up (trolling). After asking them to explain what they wanted to get out of participating here (see this thread), the question was ignored and they continued to rant at others about their beliefs.

anyone curious can check out their profile and look at their post history and it becomes pretty clear they weren't interested in anything but preaching to others about their own personal views.

So I would like to point out that even though they technically did not break any rules, if you're not here to contribute or learn about this subculture in some way, then you need to move on to somewhere else that will tolerate your bullshit, because we will most certainly not. We reserve the right to ban any account that is disruptive to the purpose of this community.

So now you are already getting banned without breaking any rules? This is getting out of hand. How do you know the person wasn't here to learn something? Most informative threads don't require any participation.
The posts weren't even that off topic compared to how threads generally evolve here, even though I disagree with them.

I think that there was a clear difference from random even habitual flakey/goofy posts derailing threads & going off topic among users to what @All Who Wander was doing. The intentional inflammatory nature combined with his disagreeable content only escalated once I engaged him in discourse. This proved to me that he was trolling very early on. He became the monthly top poster in a few days? I am sure that many fellow users do not agree with all of my views & beliefs but I do not try to reeducate & constantly infuriate others where I find disagreement. It could be argued that I baited him a bit but his troll was on well beforehand. This dude was toxic and if learning and assimilating was on his agenda; why wouldn't he tone down his twisted rhetoric while he assimilated? Instead this dude seemed to spout even more opposing views once he achieved shock factor as his audience grew. I figured that this was inevitable & that the mods/admins & forum community tolerated him long enough. I trust @Matt Derrick and others were discussing this user for days behind the scenes.

You're a guest here, so please be polite. We reserve the right to keep our house in order by removing posts/accounts, closing threads, editing post content, permanently banning people, and taking any other actions we deem necessary to keep the board on topic. We will not tolerate racist, sexist, homophobic, fascist, nationalist, and purposefully inflammatory comments/images/media. While we respect others opinions, we are the ones ponying up the money and time to create this space. It is NOT OUR RESPONSIBILITY to host opinions that we do not agree with, are offensive to the community, or irrelevant to the purpose of this message board. The great thing about the internet is that there are plenty of other places you can go and start your own website to debate these topics. Please do so.

Just to be clear: we're not here to take your shit; even if you're not breaking the rules. We're super nice and will generally go out of our way to help you, but if the staff deems your content offensive, whether it's directed at themselves, the website in general, or anyone else, we reserve the right to ban you outright. Just because we're nice people doesn't mean we're going to let you shit all over us in our own space. Our policy is ridiculously simple: don't be a dick. If you play nice, we'll play nice.

there have been no changes to the website rules in at least six months, and those changes were minor. all in all, the rules here have been mostly the same for many years now.

How do you know the person wasn't here to learn something?
if you re-read the OP, you'll see that i've already covered that.

This person was obviously a troll. They came from reddit pr somewhere like that, to derail another forum they probably randomly found on google.

Ya, they had a dissenting opinion, that somehwhat inspired debate, but that Hotel thread was pretty damn obvious that this user doesnt travel, and has pretty strong negative opinions about houselessness and poverty. Hence, only here to troll.

I like the idea that from everything Matt said before, this should be a rule by itself if it makes any sense: Fully understand and respect the overall culture of StP and its members, and only make contributions toward that. Don't troll others just because things aren't going your way.

So I would like to point out that even though they technically did not break any rules, if you're not here to contribute or learn about this subculture in some way, then you need to move on to somewhere else that will tolerate your bullshit, because we will most certainly not.

IMO, all capitalists are not automatically evil & or fascists but this individual seemed to be proud of putting his evil beliefs into practice. Lots of us have worked, do work & or struggle to exist in a capitalist world. While anarchism is very much an individuals political philosophies put into practice and democratic socialism being the support of state supported programs within the existing constructs of capitalism. I am all for finding ways to expand & support such philosophies into my own life; even better if they grow in the mainstream.

He seemed to be searching for opportunities for authoritarian and fascist encounters over others where ever possible. A case of NIMBY and anti-homeless on steroids. From his thrown as a hotel manager he was proud of running off potential employees not up to his twisted standards. To lord over his guests only lobby bathroom while posting videos of the poor in India being water cannoned for public urination. He had a weird fascination with India, harbored conspiracy theories and was clearly anti homeless. He admitted to being a rightwing wingnut & troll obsessed with power. If he was actually practicing what he preached IRL, I am sure that the local police gets nuisance calls from him daily.

Part of me also felt that perhaps this account was created for propaganda somehow. I know that the term "Fake News" gets thrown around these days with scores of fake biased online social media accounts, websites, users & their subsequent fake forum content. As his content seemed to be almost too outlandish & intentional given the overall vibe of STP and expected backlash. Could it be possible to have been done intentionally knowing a ban would occur. The only think that seemed to be strange to his beliefs and out of place was him bringing up the campaign of Andrew Yang. Could a savvy provocateur of the Andrew Yang 2020 campaign trying to create cheap/free buzz while recruiting allied followers from our demographic; do so by creating a fake enemy catfish within our ranks. Could such a tactic among future theoretical supporters be somehow successful? I personally had never heard of Andrew Yang prior to this thread and have found myself doing my own investigation of him & his campaign. If this was the case, then my hat is off to these architects; I fell for it.

When I see a bird that walks like a duck and swims like a duck and quacks like a duck, I call that bird a duck.”

By that logic anyone with a socialist bent I might just as well call a Stalinist because "while its not really the same, it is...kind of. Its just easier for me to understand this complicated world when everything is painted in black and white".

Anyway this site isn't the place for this kind of stuff so I'm done.

For the record, I don't believe there's anything in the rules forbidding fascists from participating in these discussions/this community - however, trolling is specifically prohibited
I'd say this just about covers all of that:

We will not tolerate racist, sexist, homophobic, fascist, nationalist, and purposefully inflammatory comments/images/media. While we respect others opinions, we are the ones ponying up the money and time to create this space. It is NOT OUR RESPONSIBILITY to host opinions that we do not agree with, are offensive to the community, or irrelevant to the purpose of this message board.

haha but he basically was...he was saying that we shouldnt exist basically which is fas as fuck
Again, that's not a fascist thing to say. It's an asshole thing to say, no doubt, but to attribute every rude comment with a form of governance is intellectually lazy. That (and plenty of other reasons) is exactly why no one takes antifa seriously outside of their own silly circles.

Saying I shouldn't exist is fascist

Support StP!

Donations go towards paying our monthly server fees, adding new features to the website, and occasionally putting a burrito in Matt's mouth.

Total amount
$10.00
Goal
$100.00

Monthly Goals

  1. Paying the Bills
    $10.00 of $50.00
The first $50 in donations go towards paying our monthly server fees and adding new features to the website. Once this goal is reached, we'll see about feeding Matt that burrito.
  2. Buy Matt a Beer
    $10.00 of $75.00
Now that we have the bills paid for this month, let's give Matt a hearty thank you by buying him a drink for all the hard work he's done for StP. Hopefully his will help keep him from going insane after a long day of squishing website bugs.
  3. Feed Matt a Burrito
    $10.00 of $100.00
Now that the bills are paid and Matt has a beer in his hand, how about showing him your love by rewarding all his hard work with a big fat burrito to put in his mouth. This will keep him alive while programming new features for the website.
  4. Finance the Shopping Cart
    $10.00 of $200.00
Now that the bills are paid and Matt is fed, perhaps it's time to start planning for those twilight years under the bridge... if only he had that golden shopping cart all the oogles are bragging about these days.
