Maybe I should have posted here, instead of introductions, so to avoid reposting, here's the substance of it:

This boat is pretty close to done. I need to glass & trim the topside (epoxy resin is now on), then dry dock & do a bottom job.
I could be done in a month, with help, but 2 months on my own, minimum. If I continue doing live-aboard, I may take as long as March. In any case I'll be posting for help on CL at $15 an hour for someone local.
It may happen at the end of November that I can offer a berth, but until then I have to use local help.
However, if anyone wants to talk about involving themselves with what the vessel does, please HMU.

Cockpit repairs, today.
There are only two truly weak areas on her, the worst being a section of starboard outrigger hull (not the actual ama) and the cockpit. The transom needs some work, but is generally sound.
Some photos of her interior (fore cabin to aft cabin) & today's work (relaminating). Most of the photos are on my main camera, so nothing here regarding the deck glassing & filling, or the engine compartment clean out.
She's 38' long & 22' wide. The photos just don't convey it.
In any case, a lot of work to do, so none of the updates will be very polished.
Hopefully drydock by December 1 or so & do a bottom job, as well as repair the bad hull section.

phone & wallet stolen day before yesterday.
New phone, maybe better pics (ha.. maybe better spelling).

Sealed the cockpit floor, but a 4'X3' section of the the starboard wing hull def needs to be replaced.
It's unfortunate, because I didn't see this section prior to beginning sealing the topside (at 150 fucking $ a fucking gallon), which had just been laid by the previous own (God bless him), and was bare wood, albeit marine plywood.
There wasn't time (or even the possibility) for me to be given a thorough going over, but the fellow who owns the dockage (the previou previous owner, & bless his ass, too) knew enough about her to show me the core issues.
Tools & materials, not including time, are now up $2k & counting, but this is still a great deal
: )
this thing, if the amas (outriggers) were used for 2 bunks each could arguably hold 12 people, if kept within 2 or 3 miles of shore (at least 1 supply run every week or so).

In any case.. once this section of hull is fully replaced (not just a slap on, but new, marine sealed oak stringer & other oak supports, marine ply, dual sided marine sealed hull section & new biaxial fiberglas skin and coating), she'll be ready for drydock. & a new hull job.
That's when i find out whether or not She is a white elephant or an incredible stroke of incredibly good fortune.
What some might call a Blessing.
The ama interiors & all the other wood I've been able to inspect so far (about 90%), is pretty damn sound.
In any case, if anyone is local & can see after themselves, I'm offering $15 an hour, minimum (& I'll probably feed your your ass) for help with the bottom job. That's scraping, sanding, sealing & painting, as well as other chemical applications. All PPE will be provided, and anyone who helps gets first dibs at a main berth (fore or main cabin, I'll probably keep the aft).
Also, the main cabin centerline is 5' 10", maybe 5' 9", so tall folks have to be into headbanging..
us short shits will be fine.
anyways..
work to do.

A

The 'Ameris' from the front, a fresh, sealed panel (before fiberglassing) & the underside area being repaired on the starboard wing.

Repairs continue:
Decided to chase down the compromised wood on the starboard transom wall & beam as far as possible.
Photo 1 is the transom wall, with the first compromised panel, and underneath it is a new section of the transom beam.
Removed the cockpit step & then went after the rot. Photo 2 is the cleaned transom wall, ready for oak repair (tomorrow!).
After *that* I'll finally get to seal the hull underside.

Do it once, do it right ,
; )
I could have just slapped up some plywood & been done, but the boat is in pretty good shape, other than this. She's over 40 years old, but the amas & hull are tight & dry. Absolutely great cedar construction & she may very well last another 40.
Sails are complete & mist of the topside timber is good -a few spots that need help, but nothing terrible.
It's a lot like rebuilding an RV.

I don't intend for her to be a disposable boat.
She's pretty fucking big & 3 or 4 people could live on her full time. She could sail with 10, doing island hopping.
Anyways, yeah. About 200 hours into her, so far, including supply runs. About 100 on the topside & ama.
March will probably be about the time I pull out.

Thanks for checking her out!

The ama wing panel is up.
No photos of the panel itself, yet, since it was such a bitch & I wound up as an epixy I atch, but here are some prep pjotos:
-Work boat under ama wing with tools & materials
- panel prior to installation
-tyvek!
Work boat, looking into wing, where the panel goes
- ama wing frame repairs
-transom beam repair, underside (extensive epoxy & fiberglass caulking)
-Damn tyvek..

The panel didn't go in perfectly.. a real fight.
I have to do some additional fairing work on it, but it should be ok when done.

Engine work next, I think...

Work continues.

The engine work will wait, as I need to fire her up to confirm she works.
20 hp Johnson, first outboard I'll have ever touched.
She used to have an inboard Yannar diesel, so at some point I'd like to put another in, but that's way down the road.

Decided to re-seal the port ama deck. It had been uncovered for some time & the UV got to the original epoxy finish on the deck repair the previous owner had done.
After sanding & re-sealing, she looks a lot happier.

We had two days of rain, soon after, and although there had previously been a little water that needed to be sponged out, the two days showed me had to chase down a couple of leaks on the port side. One was near the port berth, which I expected, but the other was back in the cockpit (again), port side, this time.
Nothing too bad, though. About a day of good weather to repair.
Makes me want to open the port ama wing, though, just to make sure.
I still need to tape the trailing edges of the port ama wing and deck (photos are of the starboard), though sealing them is essentially complete (a little to do when i start taping with the biaxial fiberglass cloth and epoxy. Photos are of cloth cut to the 4" width it takes to cover the seams).
Last photo is the aft of the port ama, after sealing. I had a thicker epoxy on my hands when sealing the deck edges, which is where the hand prints came from. I almost wish I could keep them.
I'll be happy when I finally get the deck painted.
