The distance from the ocean is huge for me as well. I feel a connection to the sea like I do to the mountains. Its a necessity for me.
That being said, when I start to go crazy to see the sea, Spirit does a round trip from Den to San Diego for $140 that scratches that itch.

I can also say the Sand Dunes is unequivocally the most fun place to eat mushrooms.
